ot topic: using convection whilst roasting??

ok...1st outing for my bs oven tonite (have been steadily using the burners - omg...the sear...the sear!!!!). did a basalmic lemon roasted chicken (actually - did it with a double batch of drumsticks). first of all - the oven (for me who got rid of 1953 smallest oven on earth) is huge!

i have never had a convection oven before. is convection used when roasting? or only when baking? i did google it but got competing answers. thought someone here might know. i love high temp roasting...do a lot at 500 degrees - did this at 400 and 450...came out nicely.

by the way, it seemed to come up to temp in 15-18 minutes and held it pretty well. i have 2 racks in there (took out the 3rd...i bake occaisionally but not to need 3 racks) and used the upper rack (set more middle) for my big roasting pan. but wondered if i should set the racks apart and roast on a lower rack closer to the heat source.

thanks for any response..
