java problem

My computer info:

Windows XP

Media Center Edition

Version2002

Service pack 3

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor

3500+

2.21GHz 960 MB of Ram

Today I had a firefox update. When Firefox came back on none of my card programs will load. I have java 6 update 22.

I'm sure it is a Java problem.. I had just updated my java a couple of week or so ago.

Do I just take Java off by using add/delete & download it again? Where is the best place to download it? I have always hated to mess with Java :(

I sure miss my card games.

go to control panel then to the java icon (coffee cup) double click it and click updates so it will search for updates if it finds one let it install it and do not do any of the extra toolbars etc. It now removes the old one when it installs the new one.

I download my Java from Filehippo.com and do a manual installation. I have never had a concern.

If I am not mistaken v22 is the current version.

security professionals and home land security are still recommending the removal/fully disable of java since there's still vulnerabilities with it, if you must use it do so very carefully and on a site by site basis. Only have the latest java version on your PC. Firefox has disabled java plugin in their browser. I personally have removed it from my computers that had it, the newest never had it installed. These recommendations are not from me personally they are from home land security and the security professionals. Randy FF just upgraded when I rebooted.. Jeb IE won't work at all.. it does load but thats all I can get it to do. I hate the thought of maybe having format this stupid machine LOL...Stupid but can't do without it.. I have so many things for Paint shop pro I couldn't save them all. It worked okay for me but I have read that others have had problems. I do not remember where but I read in in evaluations posted in e-mail from ZdNet, PcMag, or Pc World.

When I go to that page, it does not list my system information. So I clicked each additional suggestion. No luck. Specifics are: The Firefox plugin is enabled. Nothing happens when I try to open the Java panel. It won't open. The instructions for clearing the cache do not seem right. When I go to the Edit button, I do not have a + or option to expand. So I could not do that one. I did try to find it through tools - options - advanced - network. It says I have no cache being stored for on or offline (I had just run ccleaner before =- so that cleared the cache, I think). I still selected clear now - but I couldn't tell if anything happened. So all the options either showed no problem =- or I couldn't not execute them. Any pointers would be great. Thanks. Lynn.

It tells me I have the latest download already.. it isn't working though. Now what can I do.
Should I delete Java then go back to control panel?

DA I didn't see your post till I wrote.
I don't have the computer knowledge most of U have. I have installed Java before though with help from here.

It appears to me I have to delete Java before I can do anything.. sure won't do it though till I get an OK.

I just called Charter & was told they are doing work in my area & have been since 10:30 this morning. This sounds almost the same problem my son has a few days ago. We live in 2 different states. I hope mine don't go completely down like his did.
I'll let U know when & IF it is fixed.

yes you can uninstall Java then re-download, simply type Java into your search then go get it..

I was just sitting close to the computer & my mail popped on.. I checked & it is working again.. at least mostly. it isn't loading java in my java game. I checked in control panel & it says I have the latest Java. That is where this whole problem showed it's ugly face 1st. I also don't have the latest FireFox. Where is the best place to download that.
One other problem I see is my ZoneAlarm has an arrow & says update is running. It was like that when NOTHING worked. I have no idea what is going on. I was ready to get it formated Monday.. wonder if that is still a good idea but I sure hate to think of all the work getting things back.

I only have 19.7 GB of free space in drive C so afraid to add much to it. I have a lot of free space in drive E. If I want to install something can I put it on drive E? I don't
think so. When I was gonna have it formated I was gonna have them take out the partition.

What is going on with my computer? OH yes, I scanned & don't have a virus.

Did you also run a full scan with Malwarebytes? Please do so then you can start fixing knowing the computer is clean.

Yes you can indeed install programs on your D: drive. The computer will note this in the registry and place the needed drivers on the C: too. How large is the C: partition?

You might also run a check disk. Click Start, click Run type chkdsk /f note the space after chkdsk. You will be told this will happen at the next computer start and you type yes and hit Enter. Restart the computer.

I finally woke up & rebooted..that wasn't the original problem as I rebooted many times. Anyway java is fine now..ZoneAlarm is fine..Firefox installed 3.6.12 so all is now fine..sure hope it stays that way. I have no idea what happened..don't guess it really matters now.
