I am so sorry to be so late. CAREFUL Shaun!

Gina W. doesn't know it but I'm winging to Spain. She sent me the tools to travel there via its cuisine. I LOVE this type of food, the flavors the presentation, everything!

I had a very difficult day at work and just walked in the door. The door bell rang and it was the man from the brown truck. Perfect cheer-up timing; unfortunately, the difficult day made it tough for me to post last night. All that being said, I looked through the cookbook after midnight. I am very excited.

Oh . . . what was in the box?

The New Spanish Table: This lovely cookbook has everything you need to know to make 300 meals from Spain. It will be opened up for my weekend cook-a-thon. Hopefully, the pictures of my food will be pretty enough I can post them!

Bomba Rice: I've never worked with this rice. I love all rice and from what I have read this is the one I need for my weekend warrior task.

Paparika and Saffron from Penzy's. Wow. Gina must have special powers because I just posted about my old paprika. This stuff is going to be used up quick. The saffron is precious. I will use it carefully.

Finally, Gina W. sent me a lovely paella pan. I can use this to cook and serve so it is a double gift.

And -- An AnnT card and a wonderful note!

Thank you so much Gina. You could not have done better. I can't wait to try it all out.

Liebherr 36 info yet??

I have had the Liebherr 36'since the end of Sept. It is a free standing model that was integrated in a European kitchen. I had two issues right off the bat. There was a magnet missing which was preventing the freeze from knowing if the drawers were shut. This would not let the ice maker work, or the freezer light come on. I called Liebherr and was walked thru my issues they sent me the magnet which just snaped in. All the functions of the freezer worked, including the Ice maker. It now is awesome. The door issue is becoming annoying. Thats why they need the open alarm. This refer. is Environmently friendly Very Green. From the factory they are made in, to the LED lighting. I would be interested in finding out how Liebherr solves the door issue. Phil

Well as Annie noted I'm back to work! Sort of... on vacation already. The miosha guy at first said I didn't have a whistleblowers case. I just shrugged my shoulders and asked him to investigate anyway. He seems rather amazed and surprised when it finally came up that I had a lawyer... "oh no no no you don't need a lawyer"... "why do you want a lawyer". Suddenly I'm going to get my job back with back pay for every single day I was off including weekends. Miosha guy insisted I sign an Agreement releasing my employer from any damages... my lawyer simply told me I don't have to sign anything... so I didn't. Got my job, the back pay, and I'm back to work. Wow did they screw things up while I was gone. Three customer rejections in one month... pretty much every time they shipped product it was defective. BEST part! Some of the employees had a problem with a new chemical. They came to me and asked me to do something about it. I am still the Safety person! I told them not to breath it if it made them ill... sore throats and eye irritation. Management told them not to worry and not to believe everything I told them. The employees told management to stuff it and they trusted me more then them. That made me feel like a winner! A new guy from miosha showed up... spent three days going over everything in the place. The offending chemical has been replaced with a less toxic (and no more expensive) chemical and will no longer be heated. Old Jeb was shot off his horse by a straggler after the battle had been won. Keeping my head down and my eyes open. : ) lyra

Maggie, your DS looks so excited! The first day of school is such a big deal!! I think it's much harder on Mom than your DS. lol Grace is a sweetie. I don't think she looks like an old woman! Here's what my area looks like. I actually live in what's known as 'Historic Mystic' but that's confusing because there's no such jurisdiction. Half of 'Historic Mystic' is in Groton & the other half is in Stonington. I live on the Stonington side. Exactly where 'Historic Mystic' is causes a fuss so the USPS has given us our own zipcode. That causes even more confusion. I have trouble getting packages delivered properly. I've even had Sears tell me, "Nope, we can't go THERE to service your refrigerator!" Aargh DH's tide watch needs a new battery so I took it here...to Stonington Boro. Stonington Boro is a one street wonder. Here it is looking the other direction. I like New England architecture. Here's a few of the houses in the Boro. I love these windows but am glad cleaning the salt film off is not my job. It's beautiful during the holidays with wreaths & candles. I drove down a couple blocks to turn around at Stonington Point. There was a group of nine kayakers (sp?)...very picturesque. Here's where we are...if you look at the piece of land between Stonington & Mystic...I live on the 3rd little penninsula counting from the left. Stonington Point is a neat spot. You can see 3 different states (Fisher Island, New York, Stonington, CT, & Watch Hill, Rhode Island). Next, I went here...to the Mystic Inn to meet a marina friend for lunch. This is where Lauren Baccal & Humphrey Bogart spent their extended honeymoon after getting married in Ohio. It's known as the "Mansion" & is now a part of the Inn. The restaurant is in another building (Floodtide Restaurant) & is very good. There are four rooms in the "Mansion" on the second floor. Guests are free to use the first floor which includes this music room w/piano; a parlor w/huge fireplace & library; the dining room (either order from the restaurant or prepare your own meal); & the kitchen. The kitchen's wonderful. Circa 1905 & pretty much original except for new appliances. Guests can cook there if they want to but I can't imagine anybody actually fixing scrambled eggs in the morning? The Inn serves rolls/coffee/juice in the morning & tea sandwiches are available from trays between 4:00-5:00 p.m. It's a bit of a hike down the hill to the restaurant from the "Mansion" but a very beautiful place to spend a get-a-way weekend. The gardens are spectacular. I wanted to snap some photos but staff was bustling about getting ready for a wedding & I felt like an intruder. :( The Inn keeps a Rolls Royce to shuttle you around Mystic & Stonington Boro. Despite this rather formal Inn this is a very casual area. I showed you the Inn because that's how we came to live here. We'd come down from NH for a weekend & stayed at the Inn. We sat on the lawn for hours looking over a marina & the Sound beyond. Little did we know then that several years later we'd end up with a house 1/4 mile from the Inn & keep our boat in the same marina we'd watched on our first visit. Serendipity. It's a long ways from Fresno; but I like it here. /tricia

OHHH My GAAWWWWWDDDDD! You guys are driving me crazy with all this GORGEOUS food porn! Our firewall at the office prevents me from seeing most of the pix and summer in Michigan is so precious, that when I'm not at work, I'm either working in the garden, enjoying our boat or at the club :-D. But taking a look here tonight ALMOST has me looking forward to some bad weather so I can spend some time in the kitchen...almost. Kathleen, I adore your dishes! I think I looked at those somewhere and they came in four different fruit themes, yes? Please tell me the pottery? Shaun, the crockpot ham sounds yummy, DH LOVES ham. Recipe, please? Annie, your red, white & blue wedding cake (another thread, see...I have been paying attention) is adorable. Monique, Sol, Ann & Nancy, all of you are ENABLERs, but you knew that already. Such beautiful food and photography. Where's Marigene, still traveling? Lurks in the summer, cooks in the winter... Claire

That is a cool package! I think I know the Spanish store where Gina got some of the booty. We went there and to Penzey's on a CF field trip last year and its in Gina's neck of the woods! It's an awesome package!

I bought the book months ago when I found it. It's nicely written and has nice color pictures. I bought one for myself as well.

The book set the theme. I went to find things from Spain. The owner of the Spanish store (yup, THAT one Diana!) said that paella has to have paprika. So a trip to Penzeys for the paprika and saffron rounded out the package.

Adele, I can't wait to see what you make in that pan!

paprika is one of my all-time favorite spices...what a wonderful package. that bomba rice is the creme de la creme of rices for paella..at least what my friend's family swears by and their paella kicks butt. (her mother even made it for us to take on a camping trip YUMMY).

enjoy it all

(yup Maryanne I told Gina that was the rice to buy when we went shopping together for this)

(I just had to get that in)

(hey if san is reading this - I got some of her goodies from this same store at the same time)

Adele - FYI that rice really absorbs a LOT of water. I think it expanded by eight times in volume!

Great swap package, Gina! I picked up a paella pan and studied it hard when shopping for May - great minds think alike! Did you croak when May posted about her box! LOL!

Enjoy, Adele! Tell us more about that rice when you cook it.

LOL Teresa - I almost got a cazuela but got the pan instead to go with the whole paella rice and spices theme. They didn't have nice cazuelas like the one you got anyway!
