Another Quick Question

Planning to do a reinstall today. I have photos, and some files stored on-line at Photobucket and A-Drive and want to get them back on the computer after I get the computer running again? I see download manager on A-Drive, nothing like that on Photobucket and there is no explanation.

Online storage is new to me. I need to get my 'things' back to the computer. I have trouble understanding the terminology used.

Hi Jane,

There is a way to download your stuff from Photobucket back to your computer. Go to photobucket and look for the Albums & Media tab up top to the left. You'll see the box below just under the Albums and Media tab.

At the very bottom of the box, look for Download this album. Click on that and just follow the prompts.

Let me know if you need more help. Try it first before you reinstall.

If I may ask...why are you reinstalling? If I can save you this hardship, I'd like to help you prevent that.

Thanks Donna. Didn't see that or know what it meant. I emailed them and got a cryptic reply which had nothing to do with what I asked. I knew it had to be somewhere.

If you want to read my loooong story, you'll see my computer has no choice. I messed up big time.

I dealt with the juglone problem while sharing a garden at a neighbor's place with 2 huge English walnut trees. I did some research and forwarded the results to him, and I think they may be useful for you too. Here are 2 articles about the toxicity from English Walnut trees. Unless your trees are grafted to a black walnut root stock, the amount of juglone is much diminished. That said, they still suggest keeping certain plants away from the roots and drip line of the trees (like tomatoes & potatoes). There's a list in one of the articles. http://www.hort.purdue.edu/ext/HO-193.pdf http://www.omafra.gov.on.ca/english/crops/facts/info_walnut_toxicity.htm They also suggest that you should be able to compost those leaves for future use. I read that it takes about 30-40 days for juglone to break down. One of the best ways of dealing with what does make it into the garden, is to have more organic matter, hence more microorganisms, which are happy to consume and break down the chemical as part of their daily diet. Unfortunately, those bugs don't like massive quantities of commercial fertilizers (kills them), nor do they behave well when rototilled (population explosion then an early demise).

I just put in a 36" range and even though I had a 220 line their (previously had a gas cooktop and electric wall oven) I went with all gas. I did some research on consumer reports that the all gas was just as if not more efficient than dual fuel and cost was significantly less which I used to buy a 2nd oven (electric wall oven).

The issue is to do with file associations. I do not use Quicktime. So using music as an example. Say you currently have all you music files associated with Windows Media Player. This means every time you double click on any musical type file it will open with this program. You then decided to download and install something like jetAudio which is a radio player. During the install jetAudio will ask if you want various file types associated with it, here you can click to accept everything going to jetAudio in future or click on just a select few or none at all. Same with photos and pictures, I use Irfanview at times but I refuse to allow it to be associated with a any picture file format.

I hate it when people say they just ordered or are about to order without taking time to get questions answered or details worked out. Just answering your questions about the counter heights on the peninsulas and the wall cabinets on the bar side -- I wouldn't do the wall cabinet over the peninsula from an aesthetics standpoint. If you have a lot of glassware you want to display, keep in mind that it may be hard to reach up there. Could you reverse the door swing and hing from the center or put a sliding door on that cabinet? It's also a good wall space for art and color. Whatever you do, make both peninsula counters the same. The way they are positioned, that are like two halves of the same wall. Beyond that, I hope you are still working on this plan. I'm not a huge fan -- yet. Potential is there, but both have issues for me. Not my house, so I'd want to know how you live and how you entertain, for starters. But if you're already committed, I'd hold my tongue rather than going further. Let us know what's going on......

Read your looong story. :(

Boy! At least Dell sent you what you needed to do the reinstall. It is a daunting process but I'm quite sure that you will succeed.

You shouldn't have any problems along the way. Just be patient and take your time. Everything will work out. If you have any questions or concerns, just ask. You know that the folks here will be at your beckon call when needed.

Please keep us informed as to how the reinstall goes. When you're finished you will be patting yourself on the back and your head will be held high because you did it yourself!

Just so you're aware...Photobucket is mainly a site where you can share photographs, meaning other people can see them. If you have a free account and are using it as a storage site, be aware that it reduces the size/quality of larger photo files, so, if these are your only copies, they may not be as good a quality as what you shot originally. On free accounts, uploaded photos may not be larger than 1MB (if bigger, they get re-sized automatically); on paid accounts you can have larger images.

Thanks for the heads up, Donna. This is a first and I just finished backing up everything. Thanks to Ravencajun the on-line storage site was perfect. I just dread trying to put all those files and folders back together. I should have set up folders first but didn't think to do that so all the zillions of files are mixed. Live & Learn!

Kudzu9, you are right. Although I paid for unlimited storage, the photos were smaller. I had checked to upload at high resolution, 2mg file but they were not the true size. I believe the A-Drive uploads were full size.

I'm sitting here picking through Windows Explorer making sure I didn't miss anything. I was able to burn the drivers on CD's on my husbands laptop. So far, so good.

This is the best forum on Garden Web. I have received so much help over the years I'm beginning to feel like a 'pro'...not quite but this should be fun.
