I have to say I love our builder. So easy to work with even though we just were difficult with our floor choice and they've had to switch between me and DH as contact person back and forth due to health issues.

We are picking a wood floor that will take 4 weeks instead of the 2 weeks we were told to by the store to order. We got an e-mail today and asked if we could pick another one. Well after researching and looking at colors this is the only one I can find that meets all my criteria (3 sanding capability on an engineered,1/2" thick, matte finish, 25 year pre-finish warranty, no micro-bevel and of course the color we want). We offered to just close and have it installed later ourselves or close and they can finish it up after closing. Just got an e-mail they ordered this floor. We are paying for the floor as an extra item and not part of our loan so doesn't matter much from our stand point. Just glad they are so easy to work with.

DH saw the house this weekend and took some pics to show me as I was stuck in the hospital with a nasty infection.

It's nice to hear about a nice-guy builder. I think we all get a distorted view here because we mostly hear about the bad ones.

Loved the photos. Beautiful, beautiful kit. cabinets. Very practical peninsula--good addition. Love the cheerful yellow walls, the PORCH!! All the fitted closets. I have a serious case of land and view envy so it's no good for me to see vistas like that.

Your layout is one that has been around, with many different facades, and in many different variations for literally decades. I believe because it is so very liveable and wastes very little unnecessary space in circulation routes. Just a classic, convenient home.

Thanks pinktoes - don't have vista envy for ours it is only a 2 acre lot and one house is already building on one side and I'm sure we'll have another neighbor on the other side. I've been meaning to check and see if the lot is available, but don't think we can afford to get it.

Okay, I hate to be the voice of dissent here (especially because my mom always told me, "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all") but I really thought you were on the right track with the orange door. Yes, maybe it was a tad neon, but it could've been toned down. It was a nice punch of unexpected color, and I thought it added a lot to your exterior. I liked it against the white trim, and I thought that it accomplished your goal of picking up some of the orange tones in the logs. The green is perfectly fine, too, but I thought the orange gave it a little extra something. Anyway, just in case you're not fully satisfied with the green, I thought I would add one more opinion. Good luck! Your home looks great no matter which door color you choose.

Thank you all for your sweet comments. I have been just too close to all the building decisions and all the problems, that it is nice to remember the overall accomplishment we have made. I still have many more decisions to make, and I need to start asking the questions! Scwren - yes, it is an Xtrordinair, model 36 elite. I'm such a practical person that I didn't want to build a fireplace unless it could actually heat the house. We haven't used it yet, but since we had to cut down so many trees, we have a TON of wood to burn. amyks - I love that tub and paint color too. But wait - there's more. I'm having a local stained glass artist make a piece that will fit in the lower part of the window. That way light can still filter in and I can take a bath in privacy. It is going to be beautiful. I got that idea from someone on this site, can't remember who. I'm also having him make two transoms for the doors flanking the fireplace. I went and looked at them last Friday and he thought they would be done in around three weeks. And, of course, having learned a few things during this build, I multipied that by two and added two days. Ha. vfish - I tried not to obsess too much on the details, but those lights took a long time to find. I finally found them in Europe. Now I'm getting catalogs from the company all the time in German. Even though I took two years of German in high school, it is just not enough to translate! Mlauder - I took some pictures of the newel post for you. My contractor decided to have our trim person install the stairs, and I'm so glad he did. Our trim person was just first rate. He did excellent work on everything he did. Instead of having the railing die into a rosette, he made a half newel post, and then added a flurish on the bottom of the posts. Here are a few pictures. Joan

How nice, it's coming right along. Won't be long now. :) Please tell me more about that ladder in the closet. I'm guessing it goes up to an attic???? We have a gigantic attic. We have a pull down ladder in the hallway but would like access from my dd's closet for a "secret hide away".

Looks great! I love your kitchen cabinets. Are they alder? And the peninsula will be great.

Good to hear your builder is good to work with -- That makes a huge difference.

charliedawg - thanks, I'm not sure what ladder you are talking about as I don't think we have access in the closets. Only from garage and a small hallway from what I remember.

sweeby - thanks. The kitchen cabinets are maple. One thing we didn't get to choose, but we like them so that is OK. A good builder makes a huge difference. They have been great even with some changes we asked for immediately.
