Dual Fuel Stove Recommendations Needed.

Currently I a house with propane gas. I was told that in a few years the city will run natural gas lines to the homes, but for now I have propane.

I would like a dual fuel stove top with an electic convection oven. 30 inches across.
I am in need of recommendations.
My budget is up to $2000.00

So far the wife has been looking at the Kitchenaid KDSS907SSS, but my internet searches have found below average reviews.

I have a GE Profile Dual Fuel 30 inch range in white. I have had it for about a year. I was fortunate to get it for an incredible price from a local appliance store. They acquired it as a bid lot from a defunct remodeling company going-out-of-business sale. It was part of a model kitchen. It was new, never used so it came with a full warranty from GE. I bought it for $1000. It being white was perfect for what we were looking for to fit our bungalow traditional kitchen. I had been using a 1980s electric range that came with our house for 22 years.

The gas cooktop is great. I really like cooking on gas better than electric. Heats up so much faster and much more immediate temperature response. I am using my favorite 25 year old Reverware copper clad without any problems. I find I am able to cook most things on a lower setting than what I did on my electric range. Most of the time I use the medium and large burners from my everyday cooking. It also has a XLarge Power burner and a small simmer burner. I am very happy with the way it is performing. Everything I have made so far has come out great. No trouble with the gas or keeping the cooktop clean. I'm a "wipe up after you cook gal" so cleanup has been fine.

For the oven, I like the electronic controls on the oven and it is easy to use. I love having a window on the oven, something I never had before. I like to watch things cook and not have to open the door to do so. I have not used the self cleaned yet. I keep on top of any small messes and clean them up with mild soap and water. I also have a high heat liner that I bought at Home Goods that covers the bottom of the oven under the element. I did have GE come out and calibrate the oven up because it seemed to be 25 degrees too cool from my set temp. He said it was very common in our part of the country. (My neighbor has a new GE Profile Dual Fuel and her oven is the same way, but she is very happy with her choice too. I think they paid about $2000 on sale.)

So far I am very, very happy with this range. A big step up from our old range. The first meal I ever cooked in it was Thanksgiving 2013 and it did great!

I had the kenmore elite 30 in., bought about 3 years ago, so slightly different model than currently on sale. It was ok. It could hold a nice simmer, also full boiled quickly. However, it didn't have very good range of intermediate levels. I expected gas (from prior experience) to have a wide range of in-between flame levels. But it seemed to only have low, med-low, medium, med-high, high. When making minor adjustments to the stove dial, the flame didn't change. The oven was fine, with consistent temperature. However, using convection was very noisy--the metal back rattled. I stuck a silicone hot pad between the wall and the back of the oven to reduce the noise when I used the convection. I never had either issue checked out and have since moved out of that house. So it may have been a maintenace issue that could have been fixed. But based on that experience, I wouldn't choose the kenmore dual fuel again.

I got a DCS duel fuel range with five burners. I usually use the center burner only. It is much easier to clean up and the grease and grime are kept in the stove top and not on the surrounding counters and front floor. I use to clean up everywhere but with doing cooking at center burner; it makes cleaning much simpler and quicker. I do wok cooking mostly!

It looks like my only choice for a slide-in with downdraft is the Jenn-Air JDS1750EB There is also a KitchenAid version of that range, which you may like the look and price of better. Your other option would be a Dacor slide in. They don't have an integrated downdraft, but instead they are compatible with pop-up downdrafts, which are definitely more effective ventilators than the integrated ones. I haven't seen any reviews on Dacor ranges lately, though. Is it a good stove? It came out pretty recently, so there aren't many reviews yet. The Wolf gas range does not have the blue interior and does not have the chipping. We bought Wolf for their supposed "great service" but were very disappointed. There are definite differences in gas and electric ovens. Of course you can bake in both of them, but some people might have a preference for one or the other. Gas ovens produce water as a byproduct of combustion but they have more ventilation so moisture from combustion and what you are cooking vent out so gas is more drying heat. You also will get more heat and moisture dumped into your kitchen. Electric heat does not produce moisture but tends to hold onto humidity from what you cook so are more humid. This will have some effect on what you are baking. The added moisture promotes starch gelatinization so may allow a little longer rise in things like bread or cakes. It also affects the crust. The electric ovens will hold onto added moisture that you might add while baking bread. You can use a cloche to keep moisture around your bread in a gas oven. A gas oven because it is drying promotes the Maillard reaction and therefore browning. This is why many like it for roasting. Drying is also good at the end of baking so that you get that browning which contributes to flavor. If you have an electric oven with convection, you can use the fan when you need the drying effect of more air movement. Electric ovens are as freidajune says can be more complex. They might have additional elements that can direct the heat, more from the top(for roasting) or bottom and may have elements in the back that are in theory supposed to provide more even heat when the oven is full. Some ovens have a variable speed with the fan but very few actually mention this in their manuals. They can also have little oddities in the way they work. You might consider the broiler. Some gas ovens have an infrared broiler which can be very small. I tend to broil trays of things so like a wider electric broiler. Regular gas broilers don't get as hot because the heat goes up.
