Unread HIghlight Thunderbird 3.1.4

I recently installed the latest Thunderbird, 3.1.4. I have worked to "bend" it back into something more like the 2. series, e.g., getting rid of the tabs while reading. I never open more than one message at a time and was having trouble remembering to hit the "tab cancel" rather than the red "X" when I was done reading. That said, I can not find a way to maintain the Unread status (bold font) of messages I delete before reading. I like even deleted messages, which I store for at least a month, to show if they have been read or not.

Thanks, I haven't looked on the TB forum, yet.

    jerry nj,
Try highlighting the email you want to bold and press the M key...for me, it toggles bold off and on.

Right, works for me too, but the "feature" missing in the upgrade is: when I deleted (hit the red X, which I have added to the upper tool bar) the unread message, the message was moved to "trash" and remained bold/unread. With 3.x the Unread message is changed to "read" and moved to trash. I prefer not to have to follow the delete to the trash and change it back to "unread".

    jerry_nj,
Oops, I'm sorry, I misunderstood your question. I am no Thunderbird whiz, but my only other thought is that if you are using Thunderbird to gather mail from another ISP (is that the right word?) ie Hotmail, Gmail, Aol, etc, then can the setting be originating from there? For instance, I use Tbird to gather my mail from Gmail and it keeps my deleted/trashed unread mail bolded through the process. Just a thought.

I hope someone can do a better job of answering this for you.

Right, I'll look at "account settings" I tried to find a fix on "options". That is where I found the option to not use "tabs"... I don't care (yet/now) for the browser look in Thunderbird.

Well, I do like Thunderbird, but the print on the All Folders section at the left is getting smaller and smaller to my aging eyes. :) I had problems several months ago with it not saving "sent" emails in the SAVED folder...I would get an error message every time and could never figure out what was wrong. I haven't really done much with it since then, so am just using GMail at its source. I like the look and feel of it. Good luck!
