oil rubbed bronze finishes on faucets, etc.

I'm contemplating one of these in the 1/2 bath I plan to put in and am wondering how well the finish on these hold up? I assume they are lacquered and wonder if they'll eventually start looking awful and I'll wish I stuck with polished chrome or nickel. Anyone had them a fairly long time?

I have a price pfister oil-rubbed bronze finish faucet in my powder room and the faucet opening where the water comes out has discolored to a green color ... its been in there for about 5 years and have noticed it for the last year or so.

I have a Rohl ORB in the kitchen - it has a living finish, so it's worn over the past 6 years. Doesn't bother me in the least and adds to the charm of our new "old" home. I used RH Bistro ORB in the MBath. They are made by Newport Brass. There is no discoloration whatsoever after the same amount of time. Obviously, not a living finish. We have hard water, but deposits have not been a problem. I just clean weekly and remove any I see building up. The powder room is also by Newport Brass in ORB, no problems there either. Moen 's Brantford oil rubbed bronze finish

When Dh and I built our house and we were choosing the faucets the builder explained why it was best to go with what the plumber had available. The plumber let us choose from his catalog and Moen was his choice of better faucet quality. He said the Moen line in the box stores are not the same, meaning the inside valves and parts are not as good of quality as what he had available AND that if he could install a product recommended by him it would be warranteed!! We had alot to choose from, in fact, the Moen line we chose is very similar to the Brantford only in chrome. They are beautiful faucets and operate alot better than some faucets dh and I have used from box stores in the past. The only concern I would have is the ORB and spotting but I have no experience with that but ask a reputable plumber and he/she will tell you!!!

I was told by a saleslady at my high end plumbing showroom not to mix faucet finishes. I think if you start paging throught kitchen idea books you will see that the finishes on multiple faucets in a kitchen are all the same. It is ok to mix in finishes on other items such as hardware and lighting, but you should have something to unify the different finishes.

I did it and it looks gorgeous. The faucet is on the counter so you see the color against the counter which matches and since the sink is undermount, you don't notice it. All other kitchen hardware is also ORB. Here are a couple of pictures for you to look at:As you can see, my perimiter cabinets & counters are in the cream color scheme while the island and far wall (with refrigerator and pantries) are browns. All of the sinks are SS. It came out gorgeous.
