Show me pics of Crossville Palais or marble looking porcelain

I have been researching different tiles on this forum and got some great help already for our home renovation project. I would like a travertine looking porcelain tile in my girls bath and slate in my mudrroom. Thank you to everyone who has shown me their pictures over at What's your favorite porcelain tile. I am also trying to decide on a polished marble look in my Master Bath. Bill I did see that at one other thread you recommended Crossville tiles. I had a tile showroom show me their polished palais and it is a very pretty tile. I think I drooled when I saw it. Are there any others that you would recommend that may be slightly lower in price but just as pretty? Can anyone show me their pictures of a their polished marble looking porcelain?? Thanks for all your help!

Just a followup after reading through a thread about marble looking tiles. Porcelanrosa and Laufen were recommended so I guess I will ask my tile shop about those as well. Bill I have not discussed grout size with my tile person. Is there a recommended size? Does it vary based on the type of material? Thanks again!

avignon-- If you're looking into rectified porcelain (In Crossville, that would be their Empire Series), you want a tight grout joint-- standard is 1/16". As for the others, I'll tell you right now-- Porcelanosa will be more expensive. ALOT more expensive. They're one of the top shelf manufacturers in the world. As for Laufen, that you might find for a good price. Here's a shower I did with their travertine lookalike rectified tile:

One other thing to think about. I don't know just how close you want to be, but the tile in the next picture is a very run of the mill stock tile from Daltile. It's not even porcelain-- just a standard glazed ceramic tile, which means you'd need to use a larger grout joint (I usually use a 3/16" joint with this tile)but for glazed tile, it's one of the best travertine lookalikes I've seen yet. In fact, I liked it SO much, that I used the 18x18 version in my own bath in the apartment I just moved out of (otherwise, I'd show you pics!):

Bill: Thank you for the pics. They really helped us see how this may need to be done. The Schluter edge looks fine for the edges. Not quite as crazy about it for the outside corner edges (although it looks like you did a beautiful job with it). Question: for the outside edges around the recessed window, I wonder if we should just skip the tile in that recess and do a jamb and casing for the window out of some waterproof moulding, if such a thing is available. The window is fairly high and small, 48" x 12", at the back of the tub/shower enclosure. It starts about 73" above the floor, where the existing tile ends, so it won't get a lot of splashing from the shower. We were just going to continue the new replacement tile up to the ceiling and tile in the recess around the window (it is recessed about 3"). We are placing the existing old window with a new vinyl window. If we could find another way to waterproof the recess, like with a waterproof jamb and case, maybe that would work. (Does such a thing exist?) Of course that still leaves no solution for the tile niches we were planning for the walls of the surround. Maybe a complementary trim from another tile series would work for those? Thank you for your quick response. This is really aggravating. Work is starting tomorrow, when I also get on a plane for the E Coast. (I promised my wife that everything was ready to go and that she would not be left with any problems!) I like to plan these projects down to the last detail, and this was so unexpected.

adi1972 - thanks for that pic. Is it real slate? We are still in the planning phase, working with our architect on drawings, but I think the dimensions will be approx 8 x 13 ish with a soaking tub centered on the 8ft side under a double window. There may be a skylight too, and possibly a smaller window on the longer side also above the tub. However, the large window faces east and out into the woods, so we get very little direct sun from that window. The south facing window would have to be high and small because that side looks right into the neighbors deck. We want the slate (or slate look alike) tile for the tub surround and the stand alone shower (all three walls tiled, hopeuflly with frameless glass doors) and possibly the floor. Does anyone have pics of porcelain tile that looks like slate? Can you buy it multi-colored or do you have to get boxes of individual colored tiles and randomly place them yourself? Is there a big price diff between real slate and porcelain? One of our biggest issues with this project is trying to keep our finish materials cost down so we don't outprice ourselves out of our neighborhood. (Although we are planning on staying here long term). DH will hopefully be able to do a lot of the finish stuff himself (he can tile, dry wall, install cabs, etc) IF he can find the time to do it outside of work. He typically works 60-70+ hours a week...

We're still in the middle of it, obviously, but here is our Emser tile in style Moda, color Perla, w/our Athens Silver marble countertops from Ann Sacks. There will be large marble tiles in the shower as well, to balance out the Emser gray that's already in there. You can't see the marble well here, it's really quite distinctive; but here's the overall effect (there will be marble on that side wall inside the shower you see to the left there): This is a close-up of the marble - I thought I wanted classic carrera, but I fell in love w/the sweeping pattern of this instead: You can get a feel for the contrast here, even though the marble isn't shown well - this is my vanity:

Woven wooden shades would add a really nice texture to your room. You're right, I have a pair of double hung windows behind my tub. I've just ordered cordless cellular shades that will be 2 on 1 headrail and have the top down/bottom up feature for privacy and a view of the trees outside. I literally have to climb in my tub to adjust the windows or shades so they probably won't be moved very often. I'm planning to accent with purple so I'm hoping to find fabric for a valance to tie it all together and bring a softer texture into the room. You must be so anxious to be in your new home. I've never built a house before but I'm sure it would be both exciting and overwhelming.

Thanks again. I am going to the tile shop tomorrow so I will see if they have any of the ones you recommend. Thanks for the pictures. I read about rectified but don't really know what it means. I saw your name mentioned in the kitchen forum. I guess you get around alot! We are doing the kitchen too! Everything at the same time. I wanted a blackish green counter top. Granite probably. Even thought I love the look of soapstone I think I am a coward. If you have any experience with a honed granite. Let me know. Someone had a beautiful Ocean green honed counter. I just think the polished would end up being the easiest to maintain..... Not sure which way to go. If you have any experience in this area too, let me know. Thanks!
