It goes on to show how AVG, AVAST, Norton, do not protect against this virus. Only the ZA suite will protect 100%

I keep getting this pop up on my netbook. I just updated to FF 3.9 and the MS updates and Flash.

Anyone heard anything about this?

My son was in minefield when it popped on. He has just updated to FF 3.6.10 today. He downloaded FF from Softpedia
and minefield from the Mozilla site.

Those are a new ad mechanism introduced by iVillage. If you roll your mouse over them you'll get an info pop up. Click on the What's this link and you can read about them and learn how to disable them in IE. jb

Jane, I do not have Vista but help a few who do. From reports I have read elsewhere it would certainly appear that the MS firewall is a capable program. Any negative comments seem to come from the anti MS crowd rather than with substantial info to support any doubts on the firewall. As I noted I was asking out of curiosity in case perhaps you had read anything to suggest the MS firewall was not up to par. I used to have zone alarm but when I installed Windows 7 I decided not to reinstall it. Usually when a product upgrades itself it automatically gets rid of the old installation, this being the case with ZA if I remember correctly. Installation for firewall/antivirus software is pretty straightforward. Usually the default settings are the best choices for the average user. As for the drive situation it kinda depends on what operating system you are running to determine the easiest solution. Windows 7 has a new thing called libraries that makes it easy to link folders from different drives into one place. In older versions of Windows or Linux or Mac OS's I would suggest moving all non program files taking space on your C drive to your E drive. This frees up space for any programs that need to be installed on the C drive. I am new to this forum so I am not quite sure why your posts run off the page. It might be an issue with your screen resolution being too small for the web page to fit all in one screen or maybe a browser setting.

That strikes me as pure scareware, sad that Zonealarm has lowered it's standards to that level to encourage buying the pro version.

My (limited) understanding of virus and malware is that all companies involved cooperate when trying to keep us safe. Can anyone really believe that the other companies are sat back enjoying a coffee and ignoring this?

Thank you Zep. I think I will copy that letter and send it off to them.

This must be connected to the updated Firefox. I have 5 machines. I updated FF on two computers, so far. I'm only getting this popup on those two machines.

Why would FF get involved with this?

I'd tend to think that is some kind of coincidence. Don't see how that is possible that Firefox up-date has anything to do with it. I'm sure others are reporting the problem even with out Firefox installed. As to why the other computers are not affected I can't answer. You're in the perfect setting for a test, up date the 3ed pc and see..

I just updated FF yesterday.. I rebooted a few minutes ago & got the same popup. I rebooted yesterday before the update with no popup.

unfortunately it is not the first time zonealarm has chosen some really bad marketing methods, they did one of these type some time back and of course the adding of the toolbars in the free version has had it put in the Hall of Shame for a while now. It is still a very good firewall and free is nice but I am sure many will leave them due to their methods.
As to other free firewalls Online Armor and Outpost are good options. here is a list from Gizmo's

I will add this, I and several others in the security community no longer recommend Comodo due to some of their business practices, so consider that before choosing it and you can of course do some research on that to find out more info. Corrine had several good write up's on her blog.

I got the same sleazy marketing page from ZA this morning using Chrome browser. It has nothing to do with FF. If I can find a free version of Online Armor, I think I'll go back to it.

Well be careful uninstalling it,

Unfortunately when you attempt to remove Zone Alarm Firewall and if fails then you internet connection may stop working and itÃ¯Â¿Â½s very difficult to fix that issue.

I have never used the tool or recommended it. But I do know it can be difficult to remove.
