I don't see an issue with AVG on 7. I do see an issue with McAfee see link. If you like AVG and are use to it then for sure consider it. Download it to the desktop and install it. If you restored to factory settings like you said McAfee should not be active, a perfect time to uninstall it. It should uninstall using programs and features, we don't even need to worry about that yet because no McAfee files are running yet. Note The McAfee removal tool is not removing some new versions of McAfee. "Enterprise Software Detected" please contact McAfee. Lets avoid that or it's off to Revo un installer. When you get home connect Ethernet cable to the laptop. Then try going to www.google.com. Only go there just see if Google opens. Let us know if you get this far and we can give you a direct link for AVG so you may install that. Then while McAfee is not active we can uninstall it as I mentioned. If you want I can look at a hijack log for you after.

Depends I guess on the car/color and breezes, but some trunks get mighty hot here in florida's sun. Just read arizona for kids safefty,, cars interior rises 45F over ambient in one hour, and another site about the same. You might want to look at the specifications for laptop temperature ranges,, both opperation and storage. Wouldnt want to run it when its really too hot from sitting in the truck all day. IBM technote; Note: Be aware that extreme temperature ranges within the trunk/vehicle can damage laptops. My toshiba's spec shows storage max is 149F/65C, opperation max ambient temp 95F/35C

I have no desire to carry a computer around with me, and so I'm content with desktop. I also have two desktops - one with XP and one with Vista. I've had the XP one since 2000, and it originally had Windows 98. It does everything I want except video editing, and so the second computer is dedicated to that, but I seldom use it. I have Google Earth and Sketchup on the new computer as well, but I cannot print from it because there is no driver for Vista for my laser printer, and the printer is not that old. I'm using an Okidata color laser printer that is on our home network. I've thought about getting a laptop so that I could put my Astrology software on it and rent myself out for parties, doing astro readings, but now that I'm working full time again, I don't have time for that. I've also thought about getting an iMac, but I really don't need it. For my birthday, I bought myself a new 22" flat screen monitor, which I found at a Circuit City going out of business sale for $200. I had to recycle my old CRT, which worked fine, but was way too bulky. I felt bad about getting rid of it because it worked fine and a 19" screen, which was big enough, I think. Last month DB and I upgraded our bedroom TVs to LCDs (32" Sharp), and so we ended up with two TVs to recycle that also worked fine. I kept my large old TV in the garage, and we took my old CRT and Kevin's old TV to the recycling center, where we learned that we could recycle only two CRTs per year, and we've met our quota for the year now. So I guess the other TV will stay in the garage for a while. I might hook a DVD player up to it. Lars

O, Melissa and Ingrid, my heart goes out to you both, and heartily hope that your loved ones will be well. My own problem is pretty scary: the chest infection didn't go away and a bronchscopy revealed malign cells in my lung,so now we are waiting for the results of other tests to see what the situation is and find out what might be done. So my heart is not light. It's also hard to work outdoors since I feel so weak: shortness of breath AND my bum hip combined. Some time ago we had a storm here, too, though not as bad as Melissa's was, I think. What happened was that it snowed,and there were fierce winds, but this was before the leaves had dropped,and the temperatures were not that low, so the heavy, soggy snow caused many big, thick limbs on the oaks to split and break. There's no way I can clean up the damage in all of my woods,of course, and it is sad to see those ugly wounds on my oaks. But the bright side is that, as Melissa points out, it gives you lots of branches for terracing,etc. One of the worst-damaged trees is this beautiful oak ,and it is sad indeed to see all those raw wounds, but even with this, there is a good side: this tree does block the morning light in summer,causing a large and prominent area of my garden to only recieve sun very late in the afternoon,which was pretty bad for roses. Now, I think that since the wind "pruned" off a lot of the branches,this area may have become rather good for roses: more morning sun and filtered light at midday. Best wishes to one and all.
