Do I dare uninstall old Turbo Tax programs?

I'm probably worried for no reason, but I'm scared to uninstall my old Turbo Tax software programs (year 2001-2006). I have saved the data files (with my return information). But I'm worried that I won't be able to recreate all the data in the returns if I need to later on. I still have the Turbo tax program cd's.

Turbo tax is good at keeping track of information which has to be carried over to future returns (like capitol losses and gains, investment information used to calculate losses and gains when stocks are sold, assets which are depreciated over time, etc). I'm worried that the tax data files may not contain all the information I might later need.

If there's no risk of data, I'd like to uninstall these programs from the computer (which is now my daughters and moving very slowly). She only uses the computer for Webkinz and occasional school research (very limited - like finding a photograph, definition or map) - and she doesn't need all my old stuff on her computer.

When I got my new computer in January, I had my computer guy transfer over all my data. But I have found a minor thing or two that didn't get transfered - which left me relieved to still have it on my daughter's computer.

So now I want to know if I can safely uninstall the Turbo Tax programs. Is there a way to back up the software and data - do I need to or is this overkill? The computer has a cd burner - no dvd burner.

I also wonder if there is another way to get one more copy of any files on her computer that I may want before I delete my old files there. I know it sounds simple, but I do not know how to back up all my files there (photo, word documents, old emails, etc).

Thanks for any help.

Lynn.
