Need help with shower tile/outside corner

I'm new to this site so bear with me....

We are remodeling our basement and that includes the bathroom. Actually, we've been in the process of remodeling this bathroom for about 5 years now but just recently have the funds to actually do it now.

We tore out an old modular-type shower and built this one. Where I am "stuck" is how to finish off the one outside corner of this shower. The lighter part of the wall (where you can see the "mud") will be painted. The darker section will be tiled. But, at that corner, is where I'm stumped.

The tile that we are putting on the wall in the shower is 6x6... the only bullnose that is available that matches is 3x12. I thought we could cut the bullnose pieces in half and bullnose that entire strip but I'm not sure if it will look strange just having that single 3" strip running right along the edge of that one section vertically. I'm also going to be putting a "chair rail" of sorts at about eye level. That will be slate mosaic tile and the same 6x6 tile used on the rest of the shower walls but will be set at a diagonal/diamond pattern.

So, I guess after all of that rambling, my question is: How do I finish off that outside corner without using the bullnose pieces?

Thanks in advance! Also, if this isn't making sense, I'd be HAPPY to take more pictures and post them to explain myself better. This is our first tiling project (other than 12x12 tile on the floor... which we are actually in the process of doing as I type this)

Have you looked at the Schluter edge trim? You could tile around the corner if the tile body color is the same as the top of the tile, and then use the schluter edge instead of the bullnose piece?

If the tile body is not the same as the tile face, you could use the Schluter edge (maybe rondec or quadec) for the corner and then another (maybe the Jolly) for the finish edge.

The Schluter trim is more on the contemporary side, so you'll have to decide if you like that or not.

Oh my gosh! Never even gave that a thought! We used some of that edging/finishing material when we set the tile on the floor (carpet will be butted up against the tile in a few areas). It's not Schluter... it's whatever brand Lowe's carries... and it came in a "sand" color which matches my tile color perfectly. I don't particularily care for the contemporary look of the Schluter edge in the pictures shown on the Schluter site because we are having oil-rubbed bronze for all of our fixtures but I may be able to use the "sand" colored stuff and then maybe just run a bead of clear caulk down the wall edge where the back end of the edge/finish piece and the painted wall meet just to cover any thinset that may sneak out from behind.

Are you planning a light in the shower? We just had a recessed light placed in ours. I saw a neat idea on Holmes on Homes the other night. They tiled the wall, but left a rectangular space and put a glass panel in it, kind of like a window. That might be something to try.

Ideally, I would take it to the edge of the corner with some trim or, as homebound said, if it's real stone find someone to grind the edges so that you have a bullnose. If you choose not to go to the edge, I would come out several inches past the edge of the tub, especially if you intend to install a shower door or curtain. Here's a pic of how the builder finished my guest bathroom. Gives you a visual of 'not going to the edge'.

Thank you all so much! I just talked to the tile guy, and he's going to try mitering the corner. If there's any issue, we can buy the 3x3 double bullnose and run vertical in that area (but the tile is special order so we would need to wait for it to arrive before finishing up). I really, really appreciate the advice. I didn't know what to, and it wasn't even on my radar as something I needed to figure out until the tile started going up and looked wrong. :)

Thanks @Patricia Colwell -- we came to that conclusion as well re: the toilet. We've decided to go with glass for the full wall to keep it open and eliminate the pony or full wall. @Paul NY 5b-6a - agree, only 32" for the fridge! Not sure why they marked 40 initially. Even though it makes for a silly jog, we want to keep the deeper fridge. Pantry will only be ~24" deep for that exact reason - we'll likely put a linen cupboard in the hall bath that backs up to that space. Updated floor plan for the bath attached. We'll use the "dead" space for a couple niches (shaving + soaps), and maybe put some little shelves on the side wall facing the toilet or something (I'll leave that to the designer). Not for nothing, but Schluter makes their trim in an "Antique Bronze" (same thing) anodized aluminum. I know because a few weeks ago, I was the first contractor in New England to order a piece of it! :-)

Home Depot has some trim from a company called "Fasade" that comes in oil-rubbed bronze. I only saw the picture on the website, so it might be "cheesy" in person, but it might work. I don't know anything about the brand, so I am not recommending it, but it is a trim strip that I suspect you could attach with a slim bead of clear silicone to cap off the end.

You are welcome for the help - I am struggling with the same problem in FIVE bathrooms (building a new, large, house!), so I know what you are going through.
