Questions about today's MS updates

My updates show two security updates for XP and three for Office 2007. The only Office 2007 item I have on my computer is the Power Point 2007 viewer. Do I need to download and install these Office updates since I do not have 2007 versions of Word, Excel, etc.?

it only gives you the ones appropriate for what you have on your pc so yes. It scans your pc to provide you with the proper updates.

Okay. They are rather large, so I'm going to do only one at a time to simplify(?) things.

ravencajun, I went back in and disabled it again to see if it would happen again and I was able to get on the internet without any problems. I am now wondering if it was my ISP and I didn't know it at the time. I have no idea when they are having problems or when they decide to do something because they don't post it on their site. I did notice that it changed the looks of my search. I use to only have the search companion and I liked the looks of it and this here is just plain. Is there anyway that I can just have the search companion like I use to have and get rid of the new window? The new window is stuck and it says if I get out of it that it will cause problems. What in the world is going on with this. I never had this problem before with doing any type of searches. I disabled it but the new window won't go away. I can get the companion because it shows the dog at the bottom but I would rather it be like it was before I downloaded this thing. If you have any ideas how I can change the window back to the companion like it was before I downloaded this thing I would appreciate it very much. Thanks again, thirdfrt!!!

I use linux also my fave distro is Mepis (dual boot with Ubuntu) but with any MS OS comes IE and with IE comes the patches so as long as it is MS OS it will have IE and therefore needs the patches. Does not really matter if we use firefox and thunderbird as I also do since IE is part of the OS. I too love linux.

I personally have not used it but several people on the tech sites are recommending it. Revo Uninstaller Zone Alarm also has detailed instructions on their site on how to do a clean uninstall should you need it.

those wood slats won't help that much w/ the AC noise. Something more solid, and a teeny bit taller, might. I actually would like it taller, for a privacy reason. It's not that I would want to block ALL views in; mostly that want to block a lot of the view OUT. If you're honestly going to sell, then a simple paint job on the existing fence might be enough. Or, to hide the AC (but not muffle it), you could perhaps weave vinyl strips through it. (they sell "plastic fence weave" or "fence slats" for chain-link fences, but our block-long garden has flexible vinyl strips woven going across, through a fence much like yours) I'd only do the "tricycle run" tactic if you are planning to stay. I'm in a situation in which an outside AC condenser unit much like your neighbor's has already turned buyers away from my home because of the noise (not bcs it's visible). I don't have a code violation that I can use. But if I were you, I think I'd be worried that the NOISE would create problems if you try to sell, and I'd be wondering whether I should turn the neighbors in for the code violation (or ask them to move it)

Still this seems strange to me. I did a search for Office 2007 and all that showed up was Power Point Viewer 2007. But I guess it's better to be safe than sorry.

it is obviously some part of the basic setup that has the issue so any part of office you would have could have the "hole"
I have not looked at the specific updates yet so I really don't know what it is patching.
