Questions about today's MS updates

My updates show two security updates for XP and three for Office 2007. The only Office 2007 item I have on my computer is the Power Point 2007 viewer. Do I need to download and install these Office updates since I do not have 2007 versions of Word, Excel, etc.?

Okay. They are rather large, so I'm going to do only one at a time to simplify(?) things.

Thanks Mikie, what I need is Word 07 itself, the Program. I saw this download, but don't think it will do what I need. I need the program itself. I was hoping they offered an upgrade to 03 instead of buying the whole suite. I have Office 03 basic on that machine. I don't use Excel, but do use Outlook and Word. I was looking for a note taking program and MS has one called OneNote, but it needs Word 07 to work. I think it is ridiculous that I purchased 03 a year before they released 07 and I can't upgrade without buying the whole thing. I'll keep looking, Thanks as always, Jane

I use linux also my fave distro is Mepis (dual boot with Ubuntu) but with any MS OS comes IE and with IE comes the patches so as long as it is MS OS it will have IE and therefore needs the patches. Does not really matter if we use firefox and thunderbird as I also do since IE is part of the OS. I too love linux.

unfortunately it is extremely important so some way some how we will all have to do this. Here are articles to help you get an understanding on this DNS vulnerbility which the patch is for. The DNS converts the words you type in the address bar into a numerical address thatÂs used to route all Internet traffic. Exploiting an error like that would make phishing scams simple  people would think they were at their bank website and happily type in personal details, which the criminals could then harvest. Internet flaw could let hackers take over the Web Deficiencies in the DNS protocol Major DNS flaw could disrupt the Internet this is the site where you can find the DNS checker to have it run on your pc and see what it says about your system and how vulnerable it is. DNS Checker For those that are needing to completely remove ZA from their system many people are reporting using this program to get a clean full uninstall, it is a free uninstall program which works well to remove many programs that can tend to be hard to remove. I personally have not used it but several people on the tech sites are recommending it. Revo Uninstaller Zone Alarm also has detailed instructions on their site on how to do a clean uninstall should you need it.

If I had to move and not have my fios I just don't know what I would do. IT would be a determining factor in where I moved to I can tell you that. I will hopefully never have to leave fios! I have had it since 2005, I was one of the original test houses out here in Texas, I had the big head bosses out here from time to time, I had to call them one day because I lost my connection, I had 5 Verizon cars and trucks in my drive way in less than 15 minutes and several of them were in suits LOL. Found out one of the installers had accidentally disconnected me from the box at the street when he was working on the lines, it was very new then only about a week old. I think the poor guy got fired. That is the only time I have ever lost connection other than of course a power outage. I had DSL before that and it was a constant pain. Dial up was a bad dream.

Still this seems strange to me. I did a search for Office 2007 and all that showed up was Power Point Viewer 2007. But I guess it's better to be safe than sorry.

it is obviously some part of the basic setup that has the issue so any part of office you would have could have the "hole"
I have not looked at the specific updates yet so I really don't know what it is patching.
