The password to get on the internet or the password to get into the computer?

I would assume you'd need to set up a new account of some sort to get on the internet unless the former owner is still paying for the internet connection and wants to let you use it.

Okay. That's a bit different. It's a little tougher to fix, but not impossible. Do you know if they have the recovery CD for the laptop? If so, you could just set it back to facroty settings and create new users.

Some laptops have a recovery option built in that you can access by pressing a specific key during the boot process.

What laptop is it? I'd like to see if we can get it done through one of these methods before going to the other approaches.

I personally do not give out that kind of info since I don't know if you got it legit or if it was stolen, I am sure you got it legit but no way for us to know. You can find out how to get the admin password if you use google search there are instructions out there.

I too understand ravencajun's reluctance to offer aid in these cases. However on this forum things are somewhat different. Checking loiusiana_girl's signature one sees she has been a member of gardenweb since 2002 so she is hardly a fly by night drifter wandering through here. Bpgreen's advice on how to return the computer to factory defaults also protects any sensitive data that may be on the machine now.

that is exactly why I led her to google where with a quick search that info is readily available.

Everyone has their own rules on what they feel they will or will not do which is fine no problem.

I have a dell model no.PPO6S running windows ip professional .The product key XCBX3-CF94K-R7KX3-97RFW-X3CTB.
I do not know that much about computers and have a HP Pavillion for home use but if I can fix this one I want to put geneolgy research on it If you can help be glad to have you tell me what to do

I found it after I changed the O to a 0.

That looks like it's a Latitude D410. Here is a link to their documentation.

Unfortunately, it looks like that's not one of the models that has the extra boot utility, so you'll only be able to reinstall using the original CDs. If you have the original CDs, you can reinstall Windows. If not, the only thing I can think to do is to reset the passwords. There are ways to do that, but I think it would take too long a post to describe here. Also, I'm not sure it's a good idea to post instructions for doing that here.

Just having the disk I can fix it?do you know of place to order the disk?Can I put another hard drive in it and then do the rest of it?I do not have manual or any recovery disks
