Cuisinart/Conair sale

Just a heads-up and I know you'll all be jealous ;-), but the warehouse in Cranbury NJ, just off the Joisy Toinpike, is having their annual warehouse sale. Actually this will be their second 'annual' sale this year. I had never been to one before, but my daughter dragged me to the one in May. They actually advertise it as a Conair sale, so I wasn't expecting to see more than hair dryers...but just about all the Cuisinart products are on sale. It was like being in Disneyland for adults! My daughter picked up, among other stuff, the electric skillet for $50 (as I recall) and a 14 cup food processor (price was also inexpensive, but I don't recall the exact price) . I picked up the round waffle iron for $15. The items are all brand new in boxes -at about 1/2 retail price or better; some items are apparently refurbished. I also picked up a spare toaster oven.

So...I'm heading back this Saturday, the 5th, sometime between 7AM and 4PM. NAYY...If you need more info, just ask.

Here's the info from the email Cuisinart sent:

WAREHOUSE SALE

on Saturday, December 5, 2009
from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.,
just in time for the Holidays!

The Sale will be held at:
150 Milford Road
East Windsor, NJ 08520

They apparently traditionally had it once a year only in December, but this year they also held the one in May. I was impressed and I'm hoping this one is just as good. The prices included tax, so the prices were rock bottom for great merchandise.

It's just off the Turnpike Exit 8 at Route 33E.

Maybe we should wear badges to identify each other? Red roses? Hope you get there and enjoy. I'll probably get there around 11:30. The funniest thing was after you get into the warehouse - they lead you around and around like a line in Disney World, they hand you a cardboard box with a leash. I couldn't imagine what I would be putting in there - we actually ended up with 2 boxes!! My 6 year old granddaughter was pulling them around like puppies!

I have both, a basic model Cuisinart made in Japan and a Robot Coupe made in France. Both vintage. Both machines are heavy duty and should be able to handle any duties required in the home. Interestingly the parts from the Cuisinart fit and work on the Robot Coupe but not vise-versa. I suggest that all parts and blades be washed by hand. Do not place these parts in the dishwasher. The heat of the dishwasher drying mode will weaken the plastic of the parts. Also be careful when twisting the lid on and off the bowl to prevent the locking/power engagement pin from breaking. Most importantly DON'T DROP IT! If you have a machine with a malfunctioning locking/power engagement pin you could manually depress the button using a pen or knitting needle. Be careful though as you no longer have the safety measures of the power engagement pin to protect you. The question about 3D printing your own bowl....This is not a viable solution for many reasons including: the plastic used has to be food safe. The bowl needs to be strong enough to handle the torque and stress of day to day use. And the plastic needs to be able to handle heat especially if you use the machine to puree hot items. Finding parts for these machines is difficult. Take good care of them and you should be enjoying your smoothies etc. For many many years. Happy cooking!

It's usual that in a quality product what breaks is a part that is possibly simple, for the right person, to repair. If it's a part made of steel it can be brazed for $20 at a friendly shop. Do you know what part(s) you need? I would look at craigslist, nationally this way to see if anyone would consider repairing it. Then see if they'll do it under an 'ebay' advert. That way you have some recourse if they take your money. Go to gooogle and type: site:craigslist.org cuisinart repair try variations like this: site:craigslist.org "cuisinart repair" site:craigslist.org cuisinart -"for sale" site:craigslist.org quality small OR kitchen appliance repair Those should keep you busy. Write a note that's' the same to each one like boilerplate saying what you said here: If anyone replies then post the reply here and ask them if they want 'more work' from your connections to a national web site. Note that on Chowhound's similar thread, a user reported the blade breakage happened to him several years ago. Pictures are provided for anybody interested. (Link is here.) He also states: "you can allay your fears by examining the blade each time before and after you use it. The cracks form on the narrow sides next to the rivets, and if there are no cracks, you're good for that day: the problem takes a while to get serious." While Cavimum and I think that approach is sufficiently reassuring for our own "cooking/baking agendas" while waiting for the replacement, YMMV. Well I'm back from the sale, but I'm disappointed. There was an hour wait to get in - but even before we waited on line we were handed the sale sheets and I could tell that there wasn't going to be anything that I wanted. I was hoping to pick up a bigger waffle iron and the electric skillet - they had sold out of the waffle irons completely and they didn't have the skillet on sale. Even their selection of food processors wasn't from the top of the line. I managed to spend $15!!

I hope they do another one next May...I was spoiled from that one; we were able to just walk in- no lines and they were fully stocked.

One of the policemen there today said that there was a 3 hour wait in line at 7AM!
