Power Point associated program?

I downloaded and installed Power Point and it still will not bring up attachments that people send me???

When I try, a box comes up on the screen saying:

"The file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the folder options control panel".

Can anyone tell me how and what program I can do this with. I have no idea what they are trying to tell me. I do not know how to do this.

I went to what is called "Power Options" in the control panel. What comes up on the tabs is Power schemes, advanced, hybernate, and UPS. I do not know what to select.

I am using XP, OE and IE.

Betty, you do not want Power Options. When you open Control Panel, click on the upper left where it says "change to classic view". When you do that, you will see a folder that is named "Folder Options". Then you can make the association that you need to make so that .pps files will open. Once you do that, you can change back to category view, if you prefer.

I found Folder options. But how can I make the association that I need and what is it? A box comes up in Folder options with three tabs: General, view, and file types. I do not know what to choose...HELP...smile!

Owbist - I'm not too good at this stuff and can't give a picture like Urlee but when I go to all programs - it says Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer 2003. If I click on it, I get a box with a browser space on top that says My Documents in it. On the bottom are 2 lines - one is file name (blank) and the other is Files of type. In that box it says Powerpoint Presentations (*.ppt;*.pps; *.pot). That's all I get. But if .ppt is listed - wouldn't that mean that the extension .ppt would be opened by PowerPoint? If that's what it means, then my pc is doing what it should - right? Could I try .jpg instead?

Yes, you just need to know where to save it (destination directory). On my 'puter here at home, the path is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates\Presentation Designs. If you're downloading new templates from the Microsoft site, they should pretty much automatically go to the right destination folder.

I exchange powerpoint (Microsoft) presentation on a regular basis, one simply attaches them to the email, however your email client handles that. All email clients (support programs) I've use provides for attaching files. I see no reason to be concerned about the size, here I assume the file in no more than a few megabytes, that's a very large presentation. These files are usually large enough to make one wait a few minutes for the download if they are using dial-up, if cable or DSL ..the wait is much less, not problem in either case in my view.

There is a free PowerPoint viewer that allows you to view PowerPoint presentations but not create or edit them. If you want to create presentations you need to buy Office or PowerPoint. If you are looking for a free solution try Open Office. Here is a link that might be useful: PowerPoint Viewer

Click on file types and scroll down the list of file extensions until you find ppt and associate it with power point viewer.

You must have downloaded PowerPoint Viewer.

You want the File Types tab, scroll down until you see the extension PPS, click it, it should show you the extension details below and what it opens with, you can click change and look on the list for Power Point or browse to where ever you saved the Power Point Viewer.

I reason I think you have the viewer is because Power Point comes with Microsoft Office.

Another way would be to save the PPS attachment from your email, after you save it somewhere, right click the file and select "Open With" and then choose Power Point Viewer.
