Power Point associated program?

I downloaded and installed Power Point and it still will not bring up attachments that people send me???

When I try, a box comes up on the screen saying:

"The file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the folder options control panel".

Can anyone tell me how and what program I can do this with. I have no idea what they are trying to tell me. I do not know how to do this.

I went to what is called "Power Options" in the control panel. What comes up on the tabs is Power schemes, advanced, hybernate, and UPS. I do not know what to select.

I am using XP, OE and IE.

Betty, you do not want Power Options. When you open Control Panel, click on the upper left where it says "change to classic view". When you do that, you will see a folder that is named "Folder Options". Then you can make the association that you need to make so that .pps files will open. Once you do that, you can change back to category view, if you prefer.

I found Folder options. But how can I make the association that I need and what is it? A box comes up in Folder options with three tabs: General, view, and file types. I do not know what to choose...HELP...smile!

I use software called or Media Show by Cyberlink. I make end of the year graduation shows and I used to use PowerPoint ALL the time...but then you get into issues like processor speeds and different versions of powerpoint...and then dvd's became an option. Mediashow will let you save as an exe program that can be opened on any computer regardless of the software they have...plus you can convert to dvd if you have a dvd burner (I believe you can save as mpeg) AND it has way cool effects!!!! Some of them way cooler than powerpoint.

Yes, you just need to know where to save it (destination directory). On my 'puter here at home, the path is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates\Presentation Designs. If you're downloading new templates from the Microsoft site, they should pretty much automatically go to the right destination folder.

This thread aroused my curiosity so I decided to try saving a slide from a powerpoint presentation. The only one I found in my email was on the Hubble. I had the same problem as gloriam trying to save a slide. My version of MS office is ancient (Office 97) because I have been using the free Open Office. When I couldn't save the slide using powerpoint viewer I decided to try the impress module in open office. When I opened the powerpoint presentation in impress this is the screen I got: I found that I could right click on one of the slides in the left hand column, select 'copy' from the context menu and paste the slide into any graphics program. Owbist, I have run Ccleaner several times to clean up all leftover install files and registry fixes but the problem still occurs. I can't find any episode in the event viewer that refers to PowerPoint. I think it is really a buggy problem that Microsoft doesn't even have a fix for. I searched at Microsoft for a fix but never found one. I can work around it by transferring all the PowerPoint files I have onto a thumb drive and then move them to my desktop that is running Windows 7. The problem is only on the laptop which I am currently using. I will be taking my laptop with me when I leave to go to Norfolk tomorrow. I am spending Christmas with my youngest son and his family. I fly out in the morning.

Click on file types and scroll down the list of file extensions until you find ppt and associate it with power point viewer.

You must have downloaded PowerPoint Viewer.

You want the File Types tab, scroll down until you see the extension PPS, click it, it should show you the extension details below and what it opens with, you can click change and look on the list for Power Point or browse to where ever you saved the Power Point Viewer.

I reason I think you have the viewer is because Power Point comes with Microsoft Office.

Another way would be to save the PPS attachment from your email, after you save it somewhere, right click the file and select "Open With" and then choose Power Point Viewer.
