Saving a thread

Hi, all. Is there an easy way to save an entire thread, such as the one "Upgrading Memory - is there a difference in brands?"? I know that we can "clip this post", but can I save the whole thread? There is so much info there for us semi-computer illiterate, and I don't want to sit here and save it all one by one.

You can bookmark it if you want to be able to return to it at will. You can also go to the file menu and save the page.

Unless you copy and paste the info somewhere, it will in time drop off of page 67 here, so your clipping or bookmark will be of no use.

Which I like very much. I mean, it's good to save a specific post, but if it doesn't link to the thread where it belongs... you'll have to do a search in the forum to find the thread. So, how is right now it's ok. > So yes, with the above links I can save any post from any of those threads I tried again, but I still can NOT save posts from those links in Firefox, which tells me: : Ã¢ÂÂNoScript (an extension / add-on for Firefox) filtered a potential cross-site scripting (XSS) attempt from [http://forums.gardenweb.com]. Technical details have been logged to the Console.Ã¢ÂÂ ItÃ¢ÂÂs strange because I can save MOST of the posts, while SOME I can not. That XXS should apply to ALL the pages, imo. I just tried this and it works great; what would be a way to edit the thread, once I've saved it; copy and paste it in Word ? I'd want to return to it and edit out what I don't need and make an info document out of it, for example in conversations, there was a thread about books suggestions, I copied and pasted the thread and put it in my email drafts, then I edited out the conversations parts and only kept the book titles and authors. I guess I could copy and paste the whole thread and do that also; but your way of saving it as an archive is faster.

After you save it in "My Clippings" and you want to view it later you need to click on the heading of the first post and then the rest of the responses will pop up. I hope I'm being clear. When you go to "My Clippings" it only shows the first post of each one you've saved. That way if you have a lot of clippings (like me), you can scroll down quickly to find the one you're looking for. Hope this helps.

Saving thread from forum being shut down

I have a thread in a discussion forum that is about 200 pages long. The forum runs on bbPress plugin on top of WordPress. The owner of the website will be shutting down his forum in a few weeks. Is there a way I can save my thread onto something like an external hard drive? I would like to have the option of starting my own website and continuing my thread. Any feedback will be highly appreciated. Thanks!

you can click on file in your browser then save page as and select a place to save the file. I have a folder I created that I store those type things in, you can create a new folder on your desktop by right clicking on the desktop select New then folder, you can name it so you know what it is.

yes if they do that here and delete or remove older threads then you would definitely want to save it in a more permanent fashion. Copy and paste all of it to a word doc like Sue suggests is a good alternative. to select everything on a thread click on edit then select all to get it all highlighted then you can copy and paste it in your word doc.

I have never seen that message where is it located? I looked at the main computer help page and did not see it??

Do you mean the message I posted above in red?
It is on the first page of every forum, under the What's New on GardenWeb: banner. A lot of folks collapse the messages, so they don't load each and every time they come to the forum.

Thanks all for answering. Good idea. I will do as you suggest & make a folder on my desktop. I hadn't thought about them deleting the messages/threads. Thanks

oh I am one that collapse that area so I had never seen that, now that you told me I do indeed see it there when expanded. It sounds like something happened on some of the forums and they lost some pages or they are not displaying. Looks like all of the old ones still show up here.

ravencajun - two of the big "conversation" forums lost all their pages. The Kitchen Table, and The Garden Party both when *poof* over the weekend. I think there may have been a few others also.

I copy and paste into a Word Doc too and file under "Computer Helps" on my hard drive

I have, on occason, a few where I did the copy/paste routine and mailed it to myself and let Yahoo file and store it for me.

Before I save something I edit it quite severely and put important keywords in the subject lines.
