Comments (5)gmp3: did the back of the backplate have a sliding attachment plate (usually a circle) that allowed you to install it off-center to the box? If not, how did you install it? I'm have a terrible time finding a fixture that will work in this situation. i've been looking for a fixture with a bar but have not found one with a sliding attachment....See MoreCenter shelves over toilet, or. . . .
Comments (8)We put glass shelves over the pot at the old house...we staggered them so they filled the space better and I could display both taller and shorter things on them. Perhaps if you consider that it will distract from being off center. But be sure the guys in the house have their say on this...they spend more time standing at the pot facing the wall than women do....See MoreDecorating above an off-centered bed with a bold duvet print
Comments (7)Thank you everyone for the fabulous feedback and ideas!! @Manon- love the way you incorporated a shelf & photos together, and B&W was definitely one idea I'd thought about. Great idea about putting lamps on the shelf as a space saver, too! @Oliviag55- great call on sleeping in the room a few times to get a feel for what it needs. I think I currently avoid it bc I feel bad I haven't decorated it yet-- time to face my fears! :) And totally true that what folks notice is above the bed and at the foot...thanks for that! @Olychick- thank you SO much for these photos. I love them all and it gives me a much better sense of what decorations above an off-centered bed would look like. The first pic is perfect and gives me a great vision to work toward. And, never would have thought about doing an accent wall in a more neutral color, but that is such a great idea!! I've got a color in mind and will definitely think about that! Thank you so much everyone!! I'll definitely post an after pic once I make some progress on the room!...See MoreOff Center Window AND Sloped Ceiling
Comments (37)Not sure how much you want to spend on the project but here is something to consider. Have a carpenter gut the bookshelves and build in a dresser on each side. It might feel like you are removing some of the character of the room, but you still have the unusual ceiling and the adorable window seat. Make the fronts for the drawers decorative with moldings and interesting pulls. With two dressers you would achieve more clothing storage, and if you had the top a bit lower than the molding there would be room for deco items. Then you could put your bed on the centered window with drapes on either side the width of the bed. You would also have room for two nightstands and access to each side. Nightstands with shelves would accommodate your books. I would also get a lower headboard. If you get a different bed the existing light fixture might work. I also like the idea of painting your ceiling the same color as the walls. If you think that might be too dark, paint it half strength. Alternatively, I would do what Lynartist suggested. Lamps, mirror, etc can come after furniture placement is decided. Good luck, it's a lovely room!...See Moreweedyacres
