I don't know but my wife just spent something like $140 at Wms Sonoma on a Cuisinart and in my opinion a $1 garage sale Proctor-Silex makes better coffee. The C looks nicer though.

We like the coffee from our Cusinart (purchased for the new kitchen) very much. We did not get the grind n' brew, just the regular 12 cup with glass carafe model. We grind the coffee beans the night before in our old Krups grinder and set up the coffee maker then (less AM noise for me since DH is up much earlier than I am!).

We considered getting a Technivorm (worm?) which are so highly touted on this forum but besides the much higher cost, I think the one we would have wanted was too big for the space where we'd have kept it.

We went through 3 Cuisinart Grind & Brew machines; each would break after about 2 years use. Cleaning it was a real PITA.

Next we bought a Capresso CoffeeTeam machine which is also a grind & brew, but is much easier to use & clean. We've had it 3 years & are happy with its performance. However, lately the mechanism that flips the basket from grind to brew position doesn't always lock it at the brew position, so we no longer dare to run it under automatic control.

Recently we wanted a pod type machine to put in our master suite so we wouldn't have the mess of coffee grounds in a typically single cup scenario. We picked the Keurig machine and are so happy with it and the selection of K-cups that we bought another one for our kitchen. We now make pots of coffee just on weekends.

about two months ago, we purchased the Cuisinart DTC-975BKN coffee maker. 12-cup insulated SS carafe with programmer timer. no built-in grinder though. so far, we love it.

no wasted energy on a burner and no burnt coffee. the coffee stays hot for HOURS because of some interesting dispensing mechanism in the carafe. there are times when we empty the carafe the next morning to make a fresh pot and the coffee is still warm from the previous day!

the unit is mostly made of plastic, which feels cheap. but, functionally, the unit is simple and great. the carafe is also DW safe. the unit available in black or white. i would suggest black as it hides coffee stains well.

I bought the Cuisinart with the burr grinder about 3 weeks ago and am hoping Bed Bath and Beyond will take it back because it is a PITA.

I resisted buying a grind & brew before because I heard they were hard to clean. I was attracted to this one because it advertised that it was easy to clean and that it held 1/2 lb of beans, eliminating one step each day.

After about 1 week of use, I got a pot of plain water. I reset everything thinking I had pushed the "bypass grind" button by mistake. It did it again. I took the machine apart and found that the chute the ground coffee goes through was jammed and no coffee could get through to brew. I spent about 1/2 hour unclogging the jam and tried to figure out what I had done wrong.

Apparently this happens occasionally. To avoid it,you have to dry all the pieces after washing. I guess the residual moisture from replacing the parts just after washing was enough to solidify the grounds remaining in the chute, and after several days of this, the chute completely closed up.

I bought this machine so I would have less work than grinding coffee and then brewing it in my Braun, but frankly, the old system was actually much work overall.

I have had the grind'n brew for about year, and I hate it. If I hadn't wasted so much money on it, I would replace it already. I thought it would be easier then grinding separately, but it is actually more difficult because of the way the coffeemaker operates. First it grinds the coffee (and the grinder is too small to make a large pot of strong coffee). Then a (weak)blower moves the coffee from the grinder to the filter (often leaving a substantial portion of the coffee in the grinder). Next, the water heats up for brewing. Steam from the water enters the grinding chamber and the grinder is now filled with wet leftover coffee grinds. It needs to be washed and dried thoroughly after every pot of coffee. In addition to cleaning the grinder you must also clean the opening between the grinder and filter holder or it will be clogged up with moist coffee grounds.

I am now grinding the coffee separately and using the coffee maker as a standard coffee maker.

I guess I am just lucky. We have had 2 different Cuisenart Grind N Brews and used them without a problem. Only reason we replcaced the first was because we lost a piece to it and wanted a different color. Grinds just fine and have never had problem with it plugging up. We often make multiple pots without having to clean grinder in between. There is some residue but very little. Cleaning is very easy. Of course we will be getting a new coffemaker soon since we are in the middle of a kitchen remodel.

Keurig k cups are the best all time invention ever. Maybe even more significant than the wheel and penisilin! I will never go back to any other coffee maker ever!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for answering my question, Nuccia. I was really curious as to how the new Cuisinart worked. So it does sound like they changed the water path. Does the brew water still go through the grinder, or did they bypass it with this one?

Generally, these grind and brew machines are a real compromise. Among other things, unless they've changed them recently, you don't get to adjust the fineness of the grind. Getting a separate grinder gives you much more flexibility, particularly if you have an espresso machine of French press in addition to your drip machine.

I just bought a Technivorm drip coffee maker which is expensive but probably the best drip maker on the market - it brews the coffee at the correct temperature - most drip machines don't heat the water hot enough. I also just got a Baratza Virtuouso grinder which I'm also pleased with. More expensive this way - but I love my morning coffee!

I LOVE Bed Bath & Beyond!

I returned the new Cuisinart Grind & Brew (see above comments) to the store in a plain box because someone threw out the original packaging. Frankly, I didn't expect them to take it back because it worked fine (just a poor design). When I went to give them my receipt, I realized it was for something else I had bought there. Rather than having me schlep back to my house, they gave me a store credit on the spot and said as soon as I found the receipt, they would give me my money back.

I still can't believe my luck!

I will do additional research next time. That Technivorm looks intriguing. So do the super-automatic espresso makers, but now I wonder if they have the same problemd with jamming and cleaning as the Cuisinart?
