AVG 2012 Upgrade

I do not recall seeing any report on this so it is worthwhile sharing with AVG users as there are so many occurrences of notifying pop up windows being fraudulent.

On September 1, 2011, AVG Free Edition 2012.0.1796 was released followed by AVG Free Edition 2012.0.1808 on September 23, 2011. As common practice AVG spreads the upgrade through its normal update service. This is done so as not to overload their servers.

My notice came today after a normal database update by announcement via an appearing popup window on the Desktop. The upgrade was 52.9MB and typical in installation. During the process there was one window offering optional AVG Search along with the AVG Toolbar so watch for it.

The upgrade required a reboot and a fresh database download of 20MB.

All and all no muss, no fuss.

Hey, DA! Love those words "no muss no fuss" However...

I was just looking into this for my Wxp, and am concerned about AVG's link scanner. When I upgraded my FF browser yesterday, it disabled the link scanner in my old AVG, saying it was incompatable with the new browser. I'm wondering if it will still be incompatable when I upgrade AVG. Am I going to have to choose between FF and AVG?????

I personally am not aware of any conflict. You could just disable it. I only use the AV feature so all other offerings are disabled.

When I installed the new version - it removed the old by itself. Very easy install. I did NOT choose the repair install - I chose the first one, as directed on the AVG site. Computer updated when I went back online. I also put the file I downloaded on a flash drive and installed it on my other computers and have shared it with my other dial-up friends. It was about a 1.5 hour download on dialup.

If history repeats itself it will begin selectively auto-upgrading in the next few days. Not all updating users will get the upgrade on-demand at the same time. Grisoft usually spreads it over a period so don't be concerned if you are not getting the upgrade with your normal updating. It might be over a couple weeks at a minmum. I for one do not see a major need to rush the upgrading at this time. I would recommend be patient. If you are familiar with FileHippo, you will see on RC's link that there isn't a Change Log tab so users don't even know what the changes are yet. They are more than likely minor fixes as the numeric change is still in the suffix. DA

There was just under 200 ActiveX warnings when I ran the free AVG8 the first time. Being how I was so overly infected I guessed they were all registry keys that probably Spybot S&D or one of the other spyware immunize type programs puts in the registry as blockers. A quick look at AVG8 Q&A confirms that and says AVG isnt compatable with those programs that do that.

there is a bit of a problem but AVG announced it was going to put out an update with a fix, not sure if it has done that yet. AVG was finding a part of spywareblaster that it was alerting to as a trojan when in fact it was not, it was an actual part of spywareblaster. Other than the false positives I don't know of any other problems. I would never get rid of spywareblaster myself it does what many do not it immunizes your browsers silently, the only draw back is that you do have to remember to open it weekly and update it then enable all the new protection. here is a link to an article about the AVG spywareblaster issue Attention AVG and SpywareBlaster Users

I ended up with it even though I didn't notice an option to opt out. After I realized what happened, I checked in the control panel but it lists the entire program only.

Anyone know how I can get rid of it?
