downloading AVG upgrade to disk/flash-need lots of help!

I have the boss's permission to try to download the AVG upgrade from work where we have high-speed onto a CD-RW disk and/or (I have both)a flash drive, so I can carry the upgrade home where I only have dial-up.

I have never done ANYTHING like this before. I think I know how to tell the PC to load it onto the disk, but after that, I'm flyin' blind. Any assistance, written, links, or prayer, will be most gratefully accepted.

Oh, I have XP at work and on both the new PC's at home.

Connect the flash drive>initiate your download>select save>determine the drive location you wish to save to (it will more than likely say travel drive and my first guess is it will be the I drive)>select save. That's all there is to it.

Actually, DA, where I really need the advice is transfering it to my PC provided I manage to download it...

Yes it does, thanks. The only reason why I want to clone it is, firstly, so I can be assured I can access my documents and the programs and downloads I want to keep, I'm fairly fastidious about keeping copies so I should be able to reinstall all the stuff I want to keep, the other reason being I thought I might be able to get around the need for the NT disk, if the installer sees a Win 2k installation on the disk, but I really want to format the new drive and start from scratch, ideally. I would suspect my DVD+-r drive wasn't reading correctly, but the w2k disk seems ok, seeing as my win 95 cd's not being accepted as a valid qualifying disk. It's oem and as far as I can tell, capable of doing a full install, however, I couldn't even swap out the existing hard drive and install w95 on the new hard drive, it wasn't seeing it as a valid disk or some such. When you're suggesting I run SFC, do you mean boot from the w2k disk? If I do, there doesn't seem to be a lot of options apart from the installer, can I get to a dos prompt on the w2k disk?

Morz if you also have Windows XP you should consider installing Skype on both computers. Then get Mum a set of headphones so you can talk and walk her through the procedure - or any other problem while both of you are in front of your computers. Then you can keep up by showing the same page on your own computer. I use this quite often when helping folks. Having said that back to the issue. Have Mum install Crap Cleaner, linked below. Before using it go to Add/Remove Programs and remove the AVG install. Now run Crap Cleaner with the default settings to get those corrupt files off the machine and then do your install. If you or Mum are concerned about Crap Cleaner (it is a brilliant little freebie actually) you can create a Restore Point before moving forward so you can go back if necessary. Hi damccoy, Thanks so very much for responding! I was trying to download from: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/download/?installer=Flash_Player_10.1_for_Windows_Internet_Explorer&p=Google_Toolbar_6.5&d=McAfee_Security_Scan_Plus&os=XP&browser=ie&type=activex I made sure it was a download for Windows XP. Made sure I had enough room to download it. I am using IE8. I only use my AOL for email because I've had it set up since 1997 and I am too lazy to go around changing my email addy with all that have it for social and business. So I wanted the flash player to load for IE8 as that's the browser I use for all my searches/internet activity. I did just recently add service pack 3 to my computer and the first time I tried to download it I had problems. That's the first time my friend told me about this site here at GW. I ended up being able to get the service pack 3 on my second try. I tried a second time with Adobe Flash 10 and then again a third time but even though I get the message box that says it's been downloaded, I see that it's nowhere in the Add/Remove section. I used Roxio. I didn't want to pay their price for it but found it to be easy to use it did a great job. It would be a little harder, but the free program Audacity could be used to record music from any source that is played through your computer. After recording it with Audacity and exporting it as a .wav or MP3 file you could burn it to CD using Windows Media Player or other CD burning software. sanantoniorose, you could use audacity to record music from Utube as you play it, but I don't recommend doing so with copyrighted music.

When you get home, Jan, plug the flash drive into a USB outlet on your computer. Double click My Computer and go to the drive letter where the memory drive is plugged in. Double click on that to open and the AVG update should show up. You have two choices now. Either install directly from the flash drive or copy the update to your computer if you have a file where you usually keep updates and then install.

To install, double click the setup file and it will install on your computer.

Thanx, Grandms, I was hoping it would be fairly simple. I did manage to get AVG on the flash drive (at least it looks like I did) but got something weird on the CD R-W when I tried to download Avast.

Keep fingers crossed I don't mess something up!

DA, my fault for not making my question a little clearer. I wasn't positive I knew how to download the installer, but thought it couldn't be too hard. It's just transfering it to my PC that has me worried.
