AVG update failed

My AVG update has failed several times & I have been able to do it manually. Today it would not connect & I got this message:

It told me to go to AVG website (gave a link) .. try to run the update later

or auto update for another time... make sure the connection parameter is set properlly..

I can not find that link on the website. Can anyone direct me to that link?

Dar when I encounter a problem like that I find it simpler to download the program, remove the existing program and install from scratch. Why fight with the issues if there is no need. The link below is to the download site. We would have no idea where AVG might have been directing you.

After downloading I would remove the internet cable so you are not vulnerable during the removal and re-install. Then connect after a restart and grab the latest updates.

AVG has had several recent updates that failed this is likely another one. they always come out pretty quickly with a fix and push it on out to you. I will check and see if there are reports of another failure.

Revo uninstaller is sort of a combined way to uninstall programs and clean up the registry for that programs left overs and some of the left over files/folders it might leave. It's not always 100% effective but its better than windows uninstall - which is really just running the programmers uninstaller. You can try to use revo... I always run it on its most aggressive scan. . To me it sounds like you might need to reinstall AVG 12 the older version..... disable it.... uninstall it maybe with Revo first... then follow up with the AVG uninstall tool .. most want you to run that tool from safe mode. If all else fails, may I suggest that you use the Windows Disk Cleanup or better yet CCleaner. Then try again. I am thinking you may have had a corrupt download and it is being stored in a temp file thus impeding your successful update download. Also, have you tried updating in Safe Mode? DA

For those who aren't thrilled with Link Scanner or those who may just want to see how well AVG operates without it, it is not necessary to delete and reinstall. Double click on the icon appearing in the Notification Area/System Tray>In the appearing interface double click on the Link Scanner component>Uncheck the Enable the AVG Search-Shield (need web browser restart)>Click Save changes. I do not remember if a restart is required. I am sure AVG will advise if necessary. DA

I am unfortunately seeing still a lot of negative reports on AVG8 on the other forums, in fact I am going to be changing one of my windows pcs from McAfee to something else, and with all the complaints still I am going to go with Avast for now. I think they will eventually get all the kinks worked out of version 8, they need to because a lot of people have jumped ship over the recent problems. If I was going with AVG8 I would definitely follow the install instructions from their FAQ and NOT add on the extras.

OK, I did what Owbist said & all seems well. I almost did that 1st but decided to get advice on it before I did.. Thanks both of U.
Raven, Yes I have had problem with updates for sometime but this is the 1st time it wouldn't manually update. I hope it will continue to work right but know what to do if it doesn't.
