Adobe flash and java updates

Last week I updated both of these and since have been having freeze ups on my HP Pav dv6 with win 7, 64 bit, homepremium. I am using Firefox. I know this has happened before with updates and someone here had a problem and a fix that was posted worked for me too. Search doesn't bring it up. Any help would be appreciated.

As this is a Windows 7 machine it has the capability to check itself for errors.

Try looking near the clock for a pennant style flag, hover over or click to read if it has found anything and follow any instructions.

Alternately Click Control panel
click Find and Fix problems, this is under the System and Security header.

Or once in System and Security window click the Action Centre link in the lower left corner and see what transpires.

are you using firefox 6? if so there are compatibility issues with it and java and flash so that may be part of the problem.

Thanks for the responses and help. I am not using antivirus and removed the the antivirus before my Adobe problems. I checked/installed updates to Windows and IE. I went to Adobe.com and installed/reinstalled. This morning the issues seem partly fixed. When I am on a web page, such as Yahoo, whether in IE or FF, some of the boxes display and some don't. If I go to a web page page, like Yahoo's tech page, that has mostly boxes that have videos in them, I see the text in the boxes but they are otherwise blank. If I click on the box a video then starts playing. I know this isn't how it's supposed to work, but it's better than it was yesterday. Maybe if I wait till the next Adobe or Windows update it will sort itself out? Thanks for the suggestions. If you think of anything please let me know. I think I will put this laptop away for a week or two and use my Win7 laptop instead. I'll check on updates the next time I get it out and hope for the best.

You'll probably find this article interesting, too, Snidely. https://isc.sans.edu/ Personally...I'm still not having any problems updating either Flash or Java with FF. In Jane's case...I think the problem came when she uninstalled Adobe and the lot. None of them will download an updated program onto an XP system anymore. It's just too iffy for them. They don't want the blame if something goes wrong because the XP system can't update itself to what they consider a safe position. Perhaps Win 7.1 will reach that point, too...but so far so good. I don't use either program for personal virual development but I have two VIP sites that demand them. Until those sites upgrade to another tool...I have no choice but to stay with Flash and Java. Adobe is going through an entirely new "attitude" with their programs. Installing AIR is almost a necessity these days as they're using it as a vehicle for their programs. And, sadly, they've removed themselves from the user assistance venue. We're on our own...for the most part now. I just did the fix owbist suggested and yes I am using Firefox 6. I will see if the first fixed it, if not I will uninstall FF 6 and use the previous one. Thank you.

If there is an issue it must be associated with W7 only as my Vista has worked just fine with v6.0, and now with v6.01, along with all the current Flash, Shockwave and Java upgrades.

That would be interesting too as the foundation code for Vista and W7 are 80% the same.

I did do the Windows 7 fix problems. It said it fixed one issue. I am still getting the freeze freq on Firefox so I guess I will have to uninstall and reinstall an earlier version.

If that doesn't help

When exactly does Firefox freeze? What are you doing when it does it? Try running Firefox in Firefox in Safe mode for a while, not windows safe mode firefox has it's own and runs the browser with out any add / ons.

Firefox 6.02 maybe might your problem, but it does sound like an add on problem.

10.3.187.7 flash is current ... google identified 400 reasons flash crashes & this is the 3rd or 4th recent update since that was spoken... perhaps still working on those crash reasons.

I messed up the flash version .. sh/b 10.3.183.7

Uninstall flaah regular then run this...

Restart computer then install your flash players....

Is Adobe recomendations when having problems.

Think I'd uninstall Firefox including personal.. too. Then install todays version 6.02

FF 6.0.1 and 6.0.2 Final release are both focused on the correction of one error which most of us wouldn't even notice. If you have v6.0 you might be better off just staying with it rather than upgrading.

FF v7.0 Beta 3 was released on 9/1 and FF v8.0 (Aurora) is released in early beta.
