Is Hotmail down?

I have not been able to log onto or even get to a log-on page for hotmail since wednesday. I get "internet explorer can not display the page." I have searched the web including microsoft's pages and cant find any mention of service being out. Is it just me?

dont know how you normall access hotmail
I always use the msn messenger to access it.

They have been "adjusting" servers. Also, there is a beta connection being presented at times.

If you have a listing in Favorites delete it. Then retype Hotmail in the Address Bar and rebuilt your favorite. I was having some concerns the last few days too until I did this.

bus, I know what you mean. You hit forward and it will not let you then delete all the addys. I have found this to always be the situation when I want to forward something sent me from an @aol email addy, and possibly from an @aim addy. I just forget forwarding anything from them...sigh. Emails from most other folks can be deleted by using the forward button, going down to the top of the message to reply, and then holding down the delete key until they are all gone. I agree with damccoy try all the various methods/portals to access hotmail. I use hotmail for my main email and have on occasion had problems getting to it through the regular methods. I have indeed had to google hotmail and use some of the links provided to get to hotmail. I normally use the msn.com page then log into my msn page which has a button on the top to hotmail or down on the page it may actually show your inbox if you have it set up that way. That way usually works for me where as when I try going directly to www.hotmail.com I can have problems. It is quirky. So have him try all the methods and of course make sure he is using the correct user name and password. And try several times because I find at certain times of day mine will not connect well, I have to try a few times to get it.

well everyone I tried all the suggestions still no go...so what I did cuz I needed the info in it, was to do a copy and paste to an email that I sent to myself and printed it that way. Here is a thought and I'll run it by you guys, it looks like the long email was sent in something called MIME...don't know what that is but that may have something to do with it. In any event thanks to all for the replies.

I have had an account at inbox.com for years in fact I was one of the first accounts there, just one thing to remember there is that you must keep it active because if it goes a long time with no activity they can delete it but they usually do send you an email warning to which ever other email address you provided. My other suggested email that is really big and nice is gmx.com they have a great active forum and answer the questions and help suggestions right away. You can fetch your other mail through it also including hotmail. The link to gmx.com below is the best link to use to access your email there, it is the https secure link and if you notice up at the top next to the login button is one that says no popup, you can use that one to log in and it will open it in a new tab rather than a new window which is what I prefer. You can set up different sounds to alert you to new mail and you can change the colors too. Here is a link that might be useful: gmx secure no popup

Thanks for the suggestions but neither one work for me. Still get "internet explorer can not display the page?" Any other ideas?

I use xp and something I might try is to open a command window ..
in the Run line, type; CMD then
ipconfig /displaydns

Scroll up and down thru it to see if I recognise msn or hotmail or live url... if so then I might clear the cache'd addresses thinking maybe it's stuck on a bad ip ..
in the Run line, type;
ipconfig /flushDNS

I might also reboot my dsl modem to flush its dns cache too.

Are you on dial-up or something higher speed. Is it maybe just timing out?

Do you have any other browsers downloaded? Have you tried opening it in something other than IE? Like say Mozilla/Firefox, Opera, or Netscape?

I have Hotmail and haven't had any problems today or lately.

I had the same problem as the original poster. I think it depends on the kind of account you have and maybe location. I have hotmail as a tab on firefox and it wouldn't open for almost a week. I didn't worry about it because it's a 'junk' address for me anyway. I haven't bothered to change anything and it's working now. I assumed it was because they upgraded my account to the 'live' version even though I had tried it before and went back to the original version. I opened a gmail account and think I'll just drop the hotmail account.
