Where did Registry Mechanic come from?

I downloaded the free AVG antivirus and I now have Registry Mechanic, also clicked on free Google toolbars which I now regret. I'm having to sign in just for my bookmarks, a big pain especially since I never gave it a name or a password. Is all this part of AVG free antivirus. Also found some critical files but tells me I can only get rid of the first 5 items with the free version. What did I get myself into. I got to it from the SuperGeeks link from this forum, which I can't now find. I bookmarked it but now having trouble with my bookmarks. I need help.

Today we cannot simply click to download and install programs because so many companies allow other things to be piggybacked in for a fee. During the install we now need to carefully view each screen where choices are available to ensure we not not have the situation you have found yourself in.

AVG itself is good, no problem there.

To get rid of the Google toolbar click on an open areas on the top toolbars and in the drop down menu you should be able to remove the check mark beside Google.

Regarding the critical files you had listed you could download and install Superantispyware, update the definitions and run a full scan. Be sure to click on the blue button for the free version, not the green free trial version. This is an excellent program.

You could/should also do a free online scan at Housecall or a similar site if you have a favourite.

If this happened very recently you might consider using the System Restore feature on your computer and go back to a date prior to these events. However you should still seriously consider doing the scans.

supergeeks ???I don't think I have ever seen or heard of that.

It sounds like you did not get an actual version of the AVG antivirus.
I would do what Owbist said and do a system restore to the day before you installed that. Start> all programs> accessories> system tools> system restore> restore my pc to an earlier date, choose the date from the calendar presented prior to the date you did the install, let it do it's thing, it will need to reboot, it will take longer than normal, and if this does not help it is totally reversible and will not mess up anything.

Or try going to add remove programs and remove those programs, including the Registry Mechanic.

Definitely do the scans he mentioned because you may have got a fake scam program there are tons of them out there right now.

It is always best to get software directly off of the website of the manufacturer or author. For AVG this is the way that AVG lists in their FAQ to get it with out the extras.

It's possible but it is only a twelve inch tall plant and not very dense. I could see the pepper as soon as I walked over to it to water it. I guess it could have been less than an inch but it's now a good size pepper that stands out right in front. Every plant I have outside changed overnight after the splash of nutes. I had other peppers that were good size and solid green for almost a month but after the nutes they turned half red overnight. I have been loading up on nitrogen but this was the first good application of a balanced feed.

I think the Undulatas are sterile by themselves, as they never set a seed pod, but I wonder if that doesn't mean that their pollen could not fertilize another plant that is not sterile? Don't know much about hybridizing or plant breeding, but is that possible? If it is, could be the seedling came from your greenie with Undulata pollen. Sandy

Did some research and figured out where they came from! Somehow I had made a couple of changes to my folder view and I do not remember when. I'll just chalk it up to old age *lol* Anyway I went back into "Control Panel", "Appearence and personalization", and "Folder options" and hit the "Restore Defaults" and all those mystery folders went away!! BTW: I do not use Google so lets just say I did my "Research" using Start Page!! Best place to "start" when wanting to find an answer to something. I think it starts from viewing the kitchen as a work area. Rich people didn't go in there, so whatever the builder-architect specified was fine. Looking at Thomas Jefferson's kitchen is interesting - partly because it was advanced for its time and partly because its stripped of the affectations of the main house. Even though its spread across multiple rooms - it matches. The woods, the flooring, the simplicity of having only enough to do the job at hand, etc. So, I think the matchiness comes from the builders vision of what a kitchen is, with a little practicality sprinkled on. Plus, who has ever wanted to go 15 different places for their "work area" storage. Right now, I see two things. Other than matchiness has a long, long history - particularly in dining rooms. The first is that the matchiness can be soothing to the eye. It looks better in small environments where a collected look can quickly turn into a jumble. It can visually expand space by simplifying line and color and unifying the presentation of a small space. Sometimes, I think people who choose monochromatic color schemes are drawn to the almost zen feel that matchiness in monochrome can produce. The second is that two colors is fashionable right now. As anyone who has ever seen pics of 1970's decorating can attest, fashion is a strong force. I like some matchiness. That's partly cultural - I grew up in a time when matchiness was prized (I'm sure it will be again). And part is the touch of the ocd fairy - my eyes try to sort jumble - which is how a table for 12 where every chair is different and all the place settings are different appears to me. In a kitchen, I think matchiness (or unity) is the background for the focal points where you are directing people's attention.

Thank you for your prompt replies. I downloaded the free Superantispyware and scanned the computer. It took a while and found some cookie types that deleted. Not what AVG said I had. I'll remove the AVG, Registry Mechanic, and go back to a restore date about a week ago. Should I do another scan after that, my guess is yes. Thanks again. You people are the best. FYI Supergeeks was a recommendation or link from this forum. Maybe someone cleaned it off.

If you removed AVG, be sure that you download and install some anti-virus program. Don't leave yourself unprotected.
