Need safe site for download

I Googled and none of the websites were familar to me so I thought I would ask here for a safe site to download a viewer for a .mov file. If I remember correctly I think I read it was Quicktime I need. Not sure what my friend used computer wise to record this file to a DVD, but I know he has a Cannon camera that takes short videos and that is what this file is.

Any help would be appreciated......TIA

If you need QT look at Filehippo in the Audio and Video Panel. QT Player and QT Alternative are both available. Alternative is a bare bones version about 1/3 the size of Player. The description tab on each offering will explain the difference.

you can always download those type products directly from their home page and know you are getting the real thing.

Yes, I would agree that my kids are very tough on CDs and DVD's, one scratch will render a $20 movie useles. For this reason, I copy most of my CD's onto my hard drive, where I can either watch them on my computer, transfer them to my Ipod or burn to a DVDRW disk for a backup (for personal use within my own home, of course.) I found two programs that enable me to do this seemlessly. One is Slysoft, Any DVD, available at at www.slysoft.com. When installed, this pgm runs in the background, and it will "decode" any decription written into most store bought CDs to prevent copyright infringement. The other program is Vault 360, available at www.bambootech.com, which will format all your movies into the correct format to download and play on your ipod, PSP, or PDA device. Of course, be aware that copyright law prohibits the use of such software for any other use but backing up a dvd or cd to protect from wear or accidental damage, etc. --John

if it did not come to you as a critical update and if you do not use programs that are saying they need .Net 3.5 to run then likely you can do with out it. I do only critical updates on my windows boxes. But each person has to determine that on their own.

sorry Lynn we were posting at the same time and I did not see your question about open it online, I did get that add on to check it out but have not found it helpful for me, I also do not like to open anything with out scanning it so I am in the habit of downloading it to my pc then scanning with a right click using AV and malwarebytes. the advantage to open it online is if someone is using a pc that does not have any type of office programs on it or photo programs, with open it online you can use the options in it to for example open a document file using google apps there by not needing office or open office to view it. with pictures you can select to use their option of picnik to open the picture and do any editing you may need to do. So in those situations it can be very helpful. I have office programs on all of my computers so really don't need it for that and I have the picnik addon already in firefox and use it often so I have that base covered also. To find the options for that add on when you click on the tools list it is listed right there and if you put your cursor on it the options button is shown.

...and even if a download site is "safe," it's not a bad idea to save (rather than run) any program file, and scan it with your antivirus program before running it.

Manufacturer's sites are of course the most current and reliable sites available. However, all to often users don't know the manufacturer's name. To them it's just called "Wonderful Free Happy Cure-all Stuff". When that's the case they, in fact all users, need to be familiar with credible download portals and the available mirrors.

DA, I did go to Filehippo and download the QuickTime Alternative. I also checked out Ravencajun's suggests, but the Quicktime site was rather confussing for me.

Anyway, the QT Alt. worked perfect!! After I downladed it I scanned the file and then installed it. When I went to the folder where the mov file was and clicked on it, thinking it would ask me what I wanted to open it with, but it didn't even ask....It just opened up in the QT Alt. and played.

I thought it was outstanding too (grin))

I did find out from my friend that the mov file extention came from the camera not the computer. Looks like some of the camera makers are forcing people to use something besides Windows.
