firefox blocks downloads

I am trying to download the new picasa 3.5 and firefox will not allow me access. I can't find a setting to change to make it work. I have xp home w/firefox 3.0.14

The download dialog box says it is blocked by my security and shows a red X

Using avg anti virus and firewall.

You don't say where you were trying to download from, perhaps it was a compromised site. Try the link below, it takes you directly to the start of the download, all you have to do is agree to allow the download to start.

That is the site I was using. I have a laptop with vista that the download works fine on so I am sure it is just a setting but don't know where it is.

Even with Flash, I think there may be some sites that won't work right in FireFox. For them, FireFox has an extension (aka add-on) called IE View, which I like very much. You can right click and chose "View in IE" from the menu and that particular site will open up right IE while you still have FF open, and then videos and other things such as recalcitrant "submit" buttons and the like will work fine. I am using the original IE View developed by Paul Roub, but it is hard to find at the Extensions site. If you search for IE View, it is on page 5 of the results, so I'll give the URL here. There is also an extension called IE View Lite, which is supposed to have the same features and take less space. Just now I also found something called IE Tab, which looks useful, but I haven't used it yet. Hi DA, When I go to Tools>Add-ons I do not see Tools for Add-ons. So I went to the Adblock plus sign and there is nothing there that tells me anything about Manual or Automatic Updates. Another thing I just noticed is that I don't have the current update, do I have to go to the site and download it? Which site is the best? Oh yes I have the 0.9 version. I didn't know that because I didn't install Firefox the guys did when I had this computer built. Please send me the safest link to download the current version of Adblock Plus. Thank you.

It went away entirely for me, and closed up the space. I have Ad-block Plus. I don't know about right-clicking; on a Mac I used Control-click and got a menu that included "block image." When I clicked on that I got a dialog box with the specifics of the image and asking me to confirm that I wanted to block it. All gone.

Downloading a Snapzip file through Firefox

When I look at the preference of the file I got downloaded, it says it has audio...no video. That file has no video then, just audio as far as I know. I found where you can play a video from an online store and it says that is usually where they are stored. Do I go to my account and download the video from there to my Media Player? Yes try it nothing to loose, just download it to the desktop for now, when it finishes just double click and see if windows media player attempts to play it. Let us know. At some point it's also possible you may need to install / download-----> K-Lite Codec Pack... If you have any issues playing DVD'S. That's why I wanted you to try a known good DVD, just to see if it plays, if it does then you would more then likely not need to install the K-Lite Codec Pack With the K-Lite Codec Pack you should be able to play all the popular audio and video formats and even several less common formats. So have you tried using Internet Explorer to download? If that fails and you are using the Microsoft firewall click Start, click Control panel, click Security settings, click Firewall in the lower part of that window then look through the tabs to see if you are being denied access there.

You mention using an anti virus and firewall, aren't you using any other kind of protection to keep bigger nasties at bay? Something like either Superantispyware or Malwarebytes should be installed, updated and ran with a full scan initially to be safe. Then update and run every 14 to 21 days at your own discretion.

Thanks owbist. I finally ended up using IE which worked fine.
I have superanti... and malware..... installed and use regularly. I will eventually find out about firefox quirks on this but until then????????
