Yes but I'm very lazy about using it!

My cooking blog seems to be the only one of its kind (Icelandic food, written in English), so I have a niche carved out for myself. On average I get about 170 hits a day, which is enough to keep me blogging.

When trying to acquire readers for a blog, it's important to define your audience and then promote it to them. You've made a good start here. I'll add myself to your followers list.

it's funny, I was thinking about you and your country the other day, for some reason! Years ago I went to one of those travel-logue (?) thingies (where someone visits and then returns with pictures and a presentation) on Iceland and the guy had some of the most amazing photographs. I don't know what triggered that memory - something on TV, maybe - but I told my husband, "I want to visit Iceland someday!" He probably thinks I'm crazy. Oh well.

Phyllis, our 23 m/o granddaughter just climed out of the pack and play when she was here last week for the first time, then when they went back home, she is of course climbing out of her crib, there's no stopping them now, is there!

You would love Iceland! We went to Reykjavík for one day and night on a trip to Sweden and did a little touring around and wish we had planned to stay longer, next time we'll spend more time there.

I have a neglected one that I began for several reasons - catharsis and a way to keep writing and honing that skill. I don't think I ever got many hits and none now. How do know how many hits you get? I could never find a way to know that. I use blogspot.com.

I don't think you can find out how many hits you get. WHich would be false anyway, since I must check or edit it a million times a day. LOL So I would mess up the counter.

Woodie, thankfully I think the novelty has worn off a bit. We're down to putting her back only about once at night, thank goodness. Although today I tried to get her to nap and when I went to check on her, it looked like a diaper factory had exploded all over the room. I guess someone was busy. LOL

I guess it's not really a blog since it's friends-locked and I use it to keep in touch with a small circle of real-life friends. We're all terrible at writing letters or phoning, but pretty good at posting on a website. Go figure. I'm too much of a hermit for a public blog.

Phyllis and Barnmom....yes you can see how many hits you get with any one of many stats counters. Some even have maps to show from where in the world people are looking. Here is one that is popular.

I've been thinking about starting a blog for work/networking purposes. But I dunno. I'm kind of a privacy freak. I toyed with "My Space" trying to stay current, but none of my friends are on My Space, and it hasn't proven to be of much use, and I don't really have time to mess with it.

Could someone explain the whole blog concept to me? I read a lot of them, but I really can't get into them. There are some AWESOME blogs and video sites out there. Who hosts blogs? How can you keep track of them?

I've read a lot of garden and cooking blogs mostly. They are tons better than most of what I see on TV or read in magazines. I'd like to get more into it, because it seems like nowdays all the really creative stuff is on the 'Net, not on TV or movies or mags. I just sit at my computer so much for work, I hate doing it at home. I can't afford to get something small for reading in bed or something like that. Actually, I mostly like to watch online videos when I get home. Unfortunately the backlash of working in acaemia is that my brain is just fried, fried, fried when I finally get home from work. I need brain candy.

I used to be a paid blogger for a media site, and when we finally parted ways, I started one with a friend. It ties into a book she's writing, and I get the odd freelance assignment from it. But I wouldn't do a personal blog, I think. I'm too rigid about getting paid for writing.
