Toilet tissue issue. Yes, I'm serious!

OK, DH is hanging our new towel racks and toilet paper holders in the two bathrooms and BOTH toilet paper holders (two different styles from two different companies)can't hold a full roll of toilet paper.

We mounted the holder on the wall, put on a new roll and the roll of paper is too fat to spin. He was in shock- shock I tell you! I assured him I would poll the wise people at the bathrooms forum to see if anyone else had encountered this with new fixtures. The two fixtures were not super $$ but were apparently designed for form and not function.

I would love to hear from anyone who has experienced this -at least to make my husband feel better!

Are you talking a typical double roll or a triple roll? I find the triple rolls are too tight. We have a Gatco Franciscan and a Pottery Barn.

The triple rolls are really fat but I like them because you don't have to replace them often. I have a different kind of toilet roll and the larger rolls dont present a problem. I have included a link to a similar style of the toilet paper holder. I ran into a problem with a previous Gatco and that led me to these types of holders.

Marcia & Cangrow: Thank you for your responses, but I think you missed the point of my question which is: how quickly will the toilet tissue roll biograde? I used some thin cardboard this summer as the base for a new lasagna type bed, and it took a couple of months to rot. Would I be restricting the growth of the root systems of plants (like tomatoes and parsley) for two months by using the toilet tissue roll, which is in my opinion, not much different from the cardboard I used in bed this summer? I used some newspaper pots last summer and by the time I was ready to plant out, they were practically falling apart. But the toilet tissue rolls are ready made and uniform, and I just thought I might save a little time using them, if they would give me a favourable result: i.e. breakdown qickly enough for my root systems to 'spread their wings'. I hope I have explained myself. Thank you. Northerner.

Oh yes it is. Normal to dry springs do control larva development because their host plants do not develop sufficient numbers to accommodate the number of larva "hatched." Wet springs do the opposite.

Thank you to everyone who replied to this, I also have a sawfly situation on my hands, although it isn't as bad as last year..... yet! Last year I didn't know what the spots were, and I let it get waay too far-gone, and my poor roses were naked by July, NOT THIS YEAR, BUGS!!! When I have more time I will go through and read each & every one of your replies, as right now I'm in a hurry to get to work & can't, but even just scanning through this I saw some helpful advice that I will implement asap. Those darn sawflies can be so frustrating, why can't they just eat one of the thousand other plants available in my area, why do they have to eat our precious roses!? UGH!

We only use the disinfecting wipes outside. We bring them into the stores with us to wipe the carts, and then to wipe our hands after we come out of the store. I have an endless supply of disinfecting wipes from work, but I really don't use them much beyond this purpose. TP and paper towels are still spotty for us. I have been in stores that were stocked and those with empty shelves. I think it is more the day of the week (on weekends there are likely to be no paper products) and time of day (earlier in the morning has been better). Even though we are stocked up on these products now, it is hard not to have a panic mentality and feel like you have to stock up at every opportunity because the supply could end at any time. I have been carefully talking myself down from these thoughts, but they do crop up.

I mounted a lovely, decorative shelf low on the wall next to the toilet to hold tissue. No size issues and no empty roll on the spindle because someone (that would be dh) is incapable of changing out the roll either.

I always hated those tissue holders with the spring-loaded spindles, so when I remodeled we switched to something that hold the tissue in the same orientation to the wall as the traditional holder but with a free arm, which I think is often called European style. Not that I saw that kind in Europe, mind you. Quite a few brands offer that style.

When the triple rolls first came out, they often had enclosed in the package a special spindle that adapts any size holder to work. It has two little "arms" that hold the roll outwards. I don't know where one would get one now, but then I haven't looked
