Recurring Infections

My good friend keeps getting her computer infected by using unsafe computing practices. I've helped her clean it up several times now. Would Mbam Pro (Full Version - not free)

be useful for me to help her?

I can't get her to understand the concept of "safe computing" practices. :(

Until you get her to understand the concept of "Safe computing Practice" you're wasting your time it will be a vicious cycle of infection, no matter what you install. Malwarebytes Pro would be a waste of money.

Prevention should be first and that starts with safe browsing habits. Her identity and financial security could be at risk too if she uses the computer for banking, or purchasing on line.

If she is infected now the user should see a Malware Removal forum we could guide you there. Most forums will not tolerate repeat requests if the user can't use the computer in some sort of responsible manner.

Maybe give her microsofts free security essentials
it turns your things red when you do something wrong
certainly gets your attention fast.

Just throwing out some ideas, maybe you can dust the tops with sulphur and then seal the cuts with wax. I've seen some scabs become mushy again because water got inside. A scab can crack and even a little moisture will start to rot out the stock. I've never sealed anything with wax but I'm sure there are people on here who have that can advise you.

I wondered about the caffeine. I, too, am developing frequent UTI's in the last 2 months. I've had three and I'm going to see my doctor tomorrow to talk about it. These UTI's correspond perfectly with a sudden onset of menopausal symptoms including vaginal dryness, insomnia and nightsweats, hot flashes, dry eyes, mood changes, achey joints, etc. I just got done with a 14 day course of Cipro and then it's back again after 1 week. I, also, follow the "rules" wipe front to back, wear cotton crotch panties, drink lots of water, urinate after intercourse, but I still am getting them. I can say for sure that the vaginal dryness with intercourse certainly is a major cause. I'm beginning to feel like pretty soon I won't be able to have intercourse unless I can get this cleared up. That will make both of us very unhappy. Anyway, I'll see the doctor tomorrow and see what she says. Ruby

food change & ear infection?

The only way to be sure that an ear infection, or any other allergy symptoms, are caused by food is to do a complete food trial. If food is a problem, your dog should have symptoms year round. If her symptoms are not year round, she probably has environmental allergies and not food allergies. 1. All infections must be properly treated and gone. The Rx your vet gave should clear up any type of ear infection with the exception of ear mites, unless the infection is resistant. The fact that the infection came back within days of stopping treatment makes me think that the medication course wasn't long enough or that the infection is resistant. The infection must be cleared before starting the counting phase of the food trial. You should still feed the new food during the time that you are trying to control the infection, in case food is a problem. Otherwise, you will have a lot of trouble clearing the infection. 2. The counting phase starts after all infections are cleared and continues for 8 full weeks. During this phase, the only thing your dog can eat is the new food. You also have to change heartworm prevention to Heartgard Unflavored or to oral ivermectin, because all other heartworm preventions have beef and other flavorings in them that can interfere with the food trial. No treats, bones, or anything else besides the food can be given during this time. If something is accidently fed, you have to start the countdown all over again, because it takes about 8 weeks for the body to clear the effects of the inflammation. 3. The next phase is the challenge phase. This is often not done, but it absolutely necessary if you want to be sure that there is a food allergy. If your dog showed an improvement during the countdown phase, you feed the original food for about a week. The symptoms should return- ie your dog will get another ear infection. If the symptoms do not return, it was not a food allergy. If there was no improvement during the countdown phase then either your dog is also allergic to the new food, or she doesn't have a food allergy. I really like Natural Balance foods for diet trials, as opposed to most of the foods vets recommend (usually Science Diet, which I hate). You could also do raw or homemade diets, but it is difficult to afford foods that your dog hasn't eaten before. Duck is expensive when you buy at the grocery store, at least around here.

I agree with Mikie on the free and fully automatic Microsoft Security Essentials program. You should recommend that then tell the friend if she gets infected again afterwards you will block all incoming emails from her to protect yourself.

Sadly other people do come into the equation when security is being considered. A sloppy contact can cause misery for all those they have on their contact lists.

Stop helping your friend fix her computer. Let her start paying for professional help and I bet her habits change quickly.

I try to educate those kind of people because until they are educated on how to be safe and what practices to use there really is no solution. So I would try leading them to informative sites with good tips and helpful info on things they can do to learn how to be safe and how to help prevent infection. Plus I always install the following programs on their pc as well as making sure they have an updated working antivirus program. Malwarebytes free, superantispyware free, spywareblaster free (has to be opened and updated weekly then enable all protection no scans so very simple) those at a minimum should be on the pc.

But you can only do so much for a person the person has to want to do it for themselves!

She does want to do the right thing, but my friend is intellectually challenged.

Ah, a different situation then. You might consider installing the Microsoft Security Essentials program as I noted above. This is because it is fully automatic and relieves your friend of the worry/stress of having to update or run a program.
