Another Mosaic Tile Question

My BF would really like to do the all-over mosaic tile look in our pool bathroom shower.

contemporary bathroom design

however, every tile store we go to tells us there really aren't any glass mosaic tiles that can be used on the floor of a shower. maybe the folks who built this bathroom didn't care about slip resistance, but i do.

does anyone have any recommendations for a mosaic tile that i could use on the walls AND floor of our shower to get this look while keeping safety issues in mind?

You can still use the glass on the walls and use a porcelain/ceramic mosaic on the floors.

A few years ago I got called to redo a spa's floors that were all done in glass. Looked pretty sharp, but after several slip/falls and a final nasty lawsuit, the wet room floors were changed to different porcelains with a bit more traction. But everything had a somewhat slick contemporary feel to it.

In a couple of the rooms that were green and ebony (similar to your photo above) the wet floors generally went darker to a charcoal colored tile to mirror the ebony cabinets. I know they had looked at green porcelains but their group couldn't settle on a green that related well (in their opinions) to the glass walls.

DAL Tile was involved with the initial glass installation, so pretty much everything that was used as replacement tile was DAL Tile, but from several varying lines that they offer. Some were faux slates and faux natural stones, some metallics.

Some of the non-DAL tile they chose was some flat rock mosaic and some pebble stone mosaics.

Thank you for popping back in and happy that none of the wall tesserae popped off! ;) You've invested a great deal of time in this project and it shows. People tend to think mosaic art is easy (and some projects might be), but what they don't fathom is the incredible amount of time and creativity involved. I've become extremely fond of using stained glass in my mosaics. eBay has some fantastic deals on scrap glass. No doubt your Wonder horse is going to look wonderful when it's finished! I'm going to comment on that thread so I'll be notified when you comment (and post pictures *hint*) again. Wait… did you hear that? I could've sworn it was a horse whinnying "Katre! I'm here! Come finish me!" Yes... I'm sure that's what I heard! ;)

John thanks for your reply, did you do you trench drain yet? I am working on mine now. I have styrofoam slopes that set my pitch but with the odd shower shape I have I am really stuck on how to run them and been dragging my feet. A big concern I have is the pitch that will pitch everything towards the glass enclosure but I think with a little playing with the thin set I will just ever so gradual run it towards the drain. I purchased my trench drain from quickdrainusa.com the lights in the one you showed are very cool. I would like to go with a larger tile of the thassos but concerned with the slippage. I am going to look at the site you recommended to alter the surface. Do you agree the tile I mentioned above is not contemporary enough?

Monrovia mom, I have a feeling you may be overthinking this. I have to preface this by saying this should be done to YOUR taste, not mine. But I'm thinking you may be disappointed afterward, doing what you're proposing. One stripe at say eye level, and maybe even a second at knee level if you really want to see a lot of the glass. But to have a stripe going horizontal, and another going vertical, and still more in the niche-- may become so busy as to be distracting. If you really want to do a lot of the glass, try something like this: As for doing the niche, and it showing as being off center, I think once you've had it there for a while, you won't even notice it, unless you're someone who is extremely detail oriented (read that as OCD :-)) Seriously-- overthink this, and it can drive you absolutely nuts. As for the water solubility of the glue, almost ALL glass is mounted with glue that will soften with water. Makes it a little touch on the installer, but not even close to impossible to work with. Once it's set, though, the thinset will hold it in place in spite of the mounting glue.

Having my backsplash installed. It is mother of pearl , stainless and glass. The stainless squares have a protective sticker. My my question is should the stickers be removed before or after the mortar step. Thanks
