rainshower arm length

If installing a rainshower from ceiling, with standard 8 foot ceiling height, is a 6 inch arm the best bet, or a 12?

(To me a 9 inch would be ideal, but who makes?).

Tallest family member is 6 feet. A 6 inch arm would render the face of the showerhead about 12 inches from top of his head; whereas a 12 inch arm would be 6 inches away.

(This accounts for a few inches of shower floor and a few inches of height of the showerhead itself).

Diameter of rainshower head to be 12 inches, assume will keep the flow restrictor in.

Mongo, how far away is your 12 inch rainshower head from the top of your head????? I know you said you get a decent impact.

This is not our only showerhead, and know that this won't rinse out shampoo from hair.

Will 6 inch be too far away (less "impact") and/or look off balance with the 12 inch diameter face?

OR will a 12 inch be too low/annoying to the 6 footer?

Sorry this is a trivial question....but aren't these bathroom projects just FILLED with "trivia"? Thanks.
