1 of 2 problems: Windows Security Says AVG is turned off

I can't get it to turn back on in the Security Window. I just got a message that AVG updated and that everything is working properly. It also said that Defender was off and I tried several times to get it to turn on and it finally did. This all happened after I re-booted following a point restore.

Open AVG and hit 'update' again. Maybe restart the computer and see if that works. I've had that happen a few times and usually updating gets it working.

Ah, you are running two threads, for those interested the other thread is linked below. Now I see you cannot turn on AVG it is fair to say your computer is infected.

If you have access to another computer you might consider downloading Malwarebytes, transfer to this computer with a thumb drive and install it. Then run the full scan not the quick scan.

Do you have Malwarebytes or Superantispyware installed? If so can either of them run od have they been disabled also?

I have a 4 foot tall healthy, thriving Saguaro, and I live in chicagoland.. It stays in the house in a southern exposure from October until June. It gets watered MAYBE 4 times during those EIGHT months! Once it goes outside, I water it about every 2-3 weeks in the summer, using a moisture meter as my guide. Plus, you must ALWAYS have the same side facing south, or they will burn and die..I mark my pot with a painted red dot, so I know to ALWAYS keep that side facing south..VERY IMPORTANT to NOT turn these guys.. You MUST keep these guys super dry in the fall/winter, and even in the summer, they can go awhile without water, even if its 90-100 degrees. They are like sponges; you can see them swell up when you water them, and you watch them start to shrivel up a bit the dryer they get. Remember, they are native to the Arizona desert, where they might get 4 inches of rain ALL YEAR..Overwatering will kill these guys, and that is what you did to your little guy..My 4 foot tall guy is in a 14 inch diameter pot, which is only a little bigger than they one you had your little fingerling in.

It appears that it is gone. I used the Remover instructions you gave me RC on the Google home page and never saw AVG when I clicked on the the AVG toolbar options/advance. Nor did I see it in IE. The only option for search providers was Google listed as default/enabled/not available. I saw it in Firefox and removed it. I have only uploaded that program a few months back but never used it. I removed the Google toolbar on the culprit Google home page that was with the AVG toolbar and the AVG disappeared. Then I brought back Google. I rebooted and it is still gone and not listed as a program.I am holding my breath as it is a backward way of following the directions though I tried carefully to do that. grandms.Your thought about the company called "On call 25/8" has been running through my mind since they came out and created a pw to get into Windows last week. They had my computer a couple of months ago when I couldn't find a graphic device and did a thorough look. There was something wrong about the guys paying forward pitch that bothered me. For $750 I could get so many hours of future help in my home. He also would take care of installing my new router and Apple apps. There are other On Call 25/8 companies and wonder if anyone has heard of them. Raven thanks again for standing by as I made my way through these instructions. I hope this is the end. This afternoon I read all the online complaints about AVG - some going back 3 years. I have an external back up device that may have AVG on it now.Maybe I should throw it away My feeling is that computers are not here to stay. Owbist, the name of the game is Realwar. My grandson put it on both my PCs. I got it removed from the other one. The reason I was removing it was he never could figure out how to play it and I wanted to make sure I had plenty of room for the Roxio program. What about re-installing the game? Wouldn't it be able to pick up the missing file and then un-install? Or do you think I should do the Revo uninstaller?

the fake antivirus infections do indeed put a shield in your taskbar that look quite similar to the real windows shield and some legit AV programs shields. I would recommend going to this other forum and tell them exactly what you have told us here and they will help you run some other scans to see what is still lurking, it is rare to get rid of these infections easily. You will need to register then start a thread in the area I link you to, it would be helpful if you then put a link from this thread in your post there so everything is in one post. I seem to be okay this morning. My Defender is working, says that I'm OK and AVG is on....got updates and is doing a scan. Some kind of glitch with the point restore, I guess.
Owbist, you mention the Superantispyware. I have it installed on my other PC and I can't get it to work.
My Mother is encouraging me to try Perfect Speed by Raxco, ever heard of it anyone? Supposed to keep your PC up and running.

I would not use that program, I would do as stated and install the free malwarebytes, update it and run a full scan and let it clean what it finds. usually when a program is not allowed to run on a pc and it is a security program it is because there is an infection on the pc which prevents them from running so it will not be detected. I would add malwarebytes to the pc you say will not run superantispyware also. If you are unable to run these programs also that is confirmation you have an infection stopping the security programs. If that is the case you will need to go to a security support forum for some in depth assistance.

Once you have done the malwarebytes scan and let it clean please come back and inform us of the results, posting the log would be helpful.

the game itself may contain the infection which is why it won't allow you to remove it.

Raven, are you saying that even though I have run Windows defender and my AVG that say I am okay, I might still have an infection?
I got the superantispy to run on my other computer and it just found some adware cookies and deleted them. The problem I've had in the past with that is that it tells me that there are updates and then it doesn't do anything when I tell it to go ahead and get them. Today it worked just fine. I think I'll turn off the automatic and just do it manually from now on.

yes until you run the malwarebytes full scan and see what it says you definitely could still have infection, it is a malware remover it can find and remove many things an antivirus program will not.
Malwarebytes is the best you can get right now and it is the most used program in the security help forums plus it is free.
