I think I know the one you mean, I will keep an eye out for it I see it on some other forums. I will say if you go to google and look for avatar sites be sure you have WOT on your pc and only go to the green listed sites because many of the free avatar sites are known for malware.

You may have seen the avatar over at Worldstart or PCQ&A. A member on those forums had one where the kitten rose up from the bottom, extended a paw upwards then went back down out of view. I had cleaned up the background on it for him but having just looked at a couple of my old data backups I do not have it any more.

Does it work with IE or just Firefox?

You could look at David Pye's site. I've gone there a few times over the years (mostly for wallpaper but an avatar or two as well). WOT has little information on it, but does give it a 'green' rating.

urlee WOT works on all browsers you must install it to each one individually, just select the one you need from their page and install it(Ie version for ie and firefox version for firefox etc), very easy to do, then you will begin seeing green yellow or red circles beside things which will alert you to their status, clicking on the circles can give you info on that site and it's ratings.

Raven, my wot issued me a severe warning on one of the sites on Garden Web. It was the photography site. I am very glad you told me about that software, thank you.

what I like about WOT is that you can view the actual comments that users have posted about the site to know why they are giving it the ratings they did.
One thing that can cause that to happen on a photography site is if a picture there is hot linked or direct linked from another site that has a bad score. I just went to the photography forum here and did not get a warning was it on anything particular? Also some ads on certain sites can trigger a bad WOT rating. Try looking at what it says on the WOT rating page for the one you got a warning about.

Ravencajun, thanks, and I DO have WOT and love it. When I downloaded Firefox, I had fun looking at all the add-ons and this was one I found and really found useful ~ I've backed off several sites, just in case.

Owbist, I will look at both the sites you suggested (unfamiliar with both) and you described what I'm talking about - I think or at least very similar. Pretty sure that's it but disappointed you don't have it anymore. I'll keep trying to find it.

Not2bright - I bookmarked David Pye's site to explore later tonight. Looks like fun stuff and I think I saw that it's free (or did I imagine that because I want it to be?)

All this discussion regarding WOT makes me wonder ~ Have those of you who have used Firefox discovered any other add-ons as good or useful as that? I have one in case someone's missed it - it's called 'Colorful Tabs' under Appearance. It's simple but effective. Also 'Cool Previews' lets you see something without without opening it. I love both.

OK, I got as far as the Wot Guide and settings page which says done at the bottom but is Blank for me.
Just says Loading Settings and the rest is all blank.??

I have LOTS of firefox add-ons I don't think I could live with out. Ad block plus with the easylist subscriptions for sure to block out all those ads, Copy as Html link I use every day, Add bookmark here I just can not live with out, colt, also have colorful tabs, fission, forecast fox, statusbar clock, Imageshack right click, Right to click which allows you to right click on those sites that ban right clicking, xmarks for sure, I have different ones on different machines.

Was I suppose to click apply settings to each tab on the WOT Guide? Nothing happens when I do.

It has been a long time since I installed it but I don't remember doing anything other than installing the add on to my firefox and then restarting firefox. I did create a WOT page I think also, I think registering did that if I remember.
Maybe someone that has installed it more recently can comment.
I see the circles in all my searches and also in my emails if there are links listed in them and of course I see the circle up in the top of my browser for each page I am viewing.

Yes, you can customize WOT however you want. Access Settings by opening the add-on and clicking in the top right corner. Look through each of the tabs and choose which settings you want. Remember to click the Apply settings button before leaving the area to make your choices stick.

Raven, I don't get the warning now. How can you read what users have said if you don't go in the sight. I had another sight that gave a warning, a site I buy from. It was reported as not trustworthy, but the next time it was okay.

to read the comments you click on the circle then where it says view score card for rating details that is where you see the individual ratings and if there are comments they will be there in the comments area. On a site that blocks you with a red warning you can click on it (red warning) where it says see ratings details to get that info. Also on my firefox a yellow bar drops down at the top with a warning there also and it has a place to click to see the ratings and comments.

for an example of a scorecard with comments I will show you this one, you are viewing only the wot score card page so no danger in viewing that, I would not visit the actual site however. As you can see in the comments area over 40 negative reviews are listed.

It is really important when you know of a site that is bad or good to do your part and do a rating on it and also leave comments. That is the basis of how WOT works.

I think I discovered what my problem was and is!

My laptop is 64 bit!

I DL'd WOT to my desktop which is 32 bit and it works fine.
It says (which I overlooked) for 32 bit.

Do I have to have that tool bar it added to the top of my window?

what toolbar? it never added a toolbar to my firefox. It only added a small circle next to the url address bar for an indicator for the current site I am visiting. I have had mine from the beginning so if they now add a toolbar I am not aware.

ahh ok apparently there is now a toolbar with it for IE(I do not use IE), try these directions

The IE add-on leaves the position of the toolbar up to the browser. If the position changes, it's either another toolbar or the browser itself moving it. You should be able to lock your toolbars by selecting "Lock the toolbars" from the View -> Toolbars menu.

Also, removing the WOT toolbar disables the entire add-on, which is why it shows up when your restart your browser. (You can stop this by disabling the WOT Helper add-on from Tools -> Manage Add-ons -> Enable or Disable Add-ons.)

It seems you can move it to different locations on your various bars at the top of Ie to make it more convenient, this page is a great guide on how to customize all of your IE8 top bars.

Oh how nice----You can delete, add, or rearrange the icons on that Windows Live Bar that came with WOT just by clicking on that "hammer" on the right end.

Only on windows XP desktop.

The only thing I don't like is the fact the "donut" takes up a whole bar for itself!
I place it up on the new bar that came with it (along side the address) to the left but it does not stay there, it insists on "wasting" a whole empty bar.

that only happens on IE and that is the way IE is designed. If you were to start using firefox which I do highly recommend all you see is the round donut up on the top bar, it barely takes up any room.
As I said on the other thread, if you do not have firefox or another browser on your pc you do need to install one so that if IE fails you will not be left with no way to get to the internet.

yes there are many complaints of that when I googled it, and it was only in Ie and it was due to how IE works. You can google it some found some work arounds but like you said it will usually revert back the other bar on restart.
