In my start menu it's listed as Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 and while opening it displays a screen that identifies it. If you don't see one of these, opening the program and clicking on help > about photoshop elements tells the version. Newer versions may be different however.

Thanks, Bob...but the version isn't shown at my Startup menu. It must be too old. It also doesn't tell me when I open Elements. Thanks, though!

You can try going to your system partition, drive 'C:', and look in 'Program Files'. Open the 'Adobe' folder, there should be one, and see if there is a folder for 'Photoshop Elements'. If so open that and hover your pointer over the '.exe' file(s), don't click to execute the file. When you hover the pointer over the file(s) you should get a small pop-up window with the file information in it such as 'Description', 'Company', 'File version', 'Size', etc.

In many programs you can go to the "Help" tab at the top, and then click on "About..." to get the version number.
