How to remove mold and mildew stains from polyester shower curtai
Comments (7)I sense the slightest whiff of SPAM in the above post, but I took a look at the site. I agree with the idea of pulling the shower curtain away from the tub to dry, but you certainly don't need to pay $10 plus shipping for a clip to do that. I bought a clip at Home Depot for less than $2. Another thing that works really well is placing a plastic clothes basket in the tub after you finish showering and draping the shower curtain around it. Or even a bucket - just anything to keep the shower curtain from touching the side of the tub....See Moremold in shower, fairly new bathroom?
Comments (4)Sage advice from Bill. While chlorine bleach will kill mold, the problem is that the active ingredient in chlorine bleach is sodium hypochlorite. It's ionic in nature, the problem is that while the water carrier that makes up the bulk of liquid bleach will penetrate porous materials like grout, the sodium hypochlorite won't. The "chlorine" just sits on the surface. So you're killing the surface mold, but actually feeding the deep mold by adding moisture into the wall structure. That's why you'll see chlorine bleach listed as a sanitizer, etc, on non-porous surfaces only. Just got into this product I'm going to recommend the other day in a roundabout way, but look into a product called "Shockwave". It's a product used by a couple of mold remediation companies and recommended by insurance companies and the EPA as a mold killer and a sanitizer for septic/sewage backups. I've never used it, but I had to do some research for a few friends that had houses flooded out with all the rain we've had here. I think it was ammonium chloride based, I figure it has a high pH similar to bleach. Not sure though. I never did call the company's help line to ask questions, but the number I have written down is: Fiberlock Technologies, Inc. 978-623-9987, located in MA. You could ask them if it'd be color-safe on cementitious grout, or if it would be in any way reactive with a cementitious product like grout....See MoreHelp! Comments (58)I had the same problem with my Hansgrohe polished nickle shower fittings. After forgetting to wipe the water dry after one use, the stubborn stains would not go away. I called the manufacturer several times and everytimes I had a different advise. First I tried blue original windex. Apprently Hansgrohe approves that product. it did not work. I also tried diluted vinegar, WD-40, as well as CLR (in diffent concentrations) none of them worked. I finally got a hold of Flitz multi purpose metal polish (in a tooth paste form) and it worked like a magic! Eventhough polished nickle was not one of the metals listed, but I decided to give it a try, since I was running out of options. Flitz is hard to find unless you buy it on line. I found mine in a kitchen and bath fixture shop. To prevent from happening the company recomands NuFinish (orange bottle only) . here is what hansgrohe sent me: To prolong the lifespan of your unit and keep it looking new we recommend the following care tips: 1. Regularly massage/rub the nodules on your hand shower/overhead shower/hand sprayer to keep water debris from accumulating on your water spouts. 2. Periodically soaking your unit in a 50/50 solution of warm water and CLR (Calcium, Lime, & Rust remover) for no longer than 10 minutes and then rinsing with fresh water. (this didnt work, But Flitz did) 3. Polish your unit with Flitz or NuFinish (only orange bottle). 4. Clean your unit with mild soap and water. Refrain from cleaning your products with any of the following: 1. Vinegar 2. Anything acidic (even organic products that have acidic ingredients) 3. Anything "no rinse"...See MoreMOLD all over brand new construction!
Comments (57)Please update on how the problem was handled! I have me own tale of woe and hopefully can be an example of what can happen if you move into a house that has a mold problem. My husband, my son and I moved into our brand new home in Jan 2016. Literally a month later I began having issues with what I thought could be liver (nausea, pain in my right side, my right side under rib cage felt as if it were swollen) and I went to doctors, of course there was nothing wrong with me, but then my skin went bonkers, became red, so irritated that smiling hurt! And I won't even bring up all the countless respiratory problems! I've lost appetite, lost weight, but then suddenly gained it all back plus some more. My skin problems became a daily struggle... I could go on and on! To make a long story short, we're moving out in December! I can't wait! There's black colored mold seeping through cracks in shower stall of our master bathroom and I haven't been sleeping in my bedroom because of the smell. We're foreclosing. F this noise!! We wanted this house so much and were so excited to own a brand new home not knowing how miserable it can make us! (I have allergies and was hoping a brand new house would mean clean environment for me) OP, protect your kiddos, stop this train before it derails! And I know how you feel about your son's kindergarten, it's such special time for him and you and now it's all uncertain and it causes anxiety because you want to provide stability for your child. My little boy started kindergarten too in August and we're going to transfer him to a different school once we move. I can't wait til we're out of this house! Please get an attorney involved to help you get through this nightmare without losing the battle. And please update on the progress and I wish you happy ending!!!...See Morehomepro01
