Reboot the computer see if that helps with the cd in it. Also you can double click the MY-Computer Icon and in there double click the cd-Drive I would try this step first.

Also try other cd's there is always the possibility the player is not seeing or reading the cd.

Will other CDs play? Have you moved the computer lately, there could be a chance that the cable is loose?

No, I havent moved anything and if there was a loose cable how would the computer be working fine?? No cds or dvds will play. I checked my sytem and it says its working properly....this is driving me batty!!

I should have been more specific. There are a couple of cables that connect the drive. have you tried to uninstall and reinstall the device from device manager yet?

Not sure what you mean,,,the device manager??? The cds go in the front of the tower ,,,if the cables were loose wouldnt I lose internet connection etc????

I am sorry that you didn't understand. Is the computer under warranty? If it is, please call your manufacturer, they will be able to walk you through the steps. I found an old post about the same topic. As far as the cables go, the interior of your computer case is filled with cables that connect each device to the power supply and the motherboard. Please just disregard that question about the cables.

I read that post and it said sometimes I tunes causes a proble,so I went to un install it,,,it sticks hafway and wont un install,,,NOW what do I do?????

Restart and try again. I would not have suspected Itunes. It could be that the CD Player has just gone bad.

When you put a disk in, does the drive spin up?

I dont know what spin up means,,,I assume you mean it makes a whirring noise??? No, it does nothing at all,,,,

What Peggy was asking was does the activity light on the front of your CD/DVD player start to flash after you insert a CD and close the door. The idea is to find out if power is reaching the drive at all.

Normally the light will flash with longer fairly consistent flash, then once it is ready to play the flashes get much more rapid and shorter.

How old is the device and is it a CD or DVD player?

I feel like a complete idiot and I apologise. It will play cds but not dvds. I was assuming it did both as my teen age daughter assured me it should. I just put a regular cd in and it played fine!!! Oh brother!!! My face is red!!

Don't feel bad, I am having more and more of those moments, the older I get ;-)
