emmie, I think something is going on with these Bosch range fans. There is another poster who had problems with her Bosch cooling fan not running long enough. I am the opposite extreme - as mine is very noisy and the cooling fan takes forever (like and hour and a half) to turn off.

Call your salesperson right away - you know something isn't right. On my range (the slide-in version) the cooling fan runs even when in regular bake mode - should your's do that, too?

emmie, I should have gone to your link before I wrote an answer to ou post. I didn't realize that you had a gas range with convection. I would think that some of the things I am going to tell you may still be the same whether one has gas or electric.
Do you have a convection bake mode and also a convection roast mode? If you have these two settings you might want to see if the fan works with both . I have had great problems with 2 new LG convection electric ranges. While the oven preheated to set temperature the fan stayed on. Once Temperature came to correct heat the fan would go off. Without opening the oven door I timed 15 minutes before the fan came back on. Then it would cycle on 40 seconds and off 30. If the oven door was opened the fan would go back off for an extended period of time. LG insists that this is how the fan is supposed to operate. However the convection multirack baking was terribe.
My new GE Profile does another strange thing. The fan goes in one direction for about 30 seconds and then stops for about 15 seconds and then reverses direction. So far the multirack baking results are very good. Maybe your Bosch is doing something like these two ranges. Let me know how you get along. I am very interested.
Everyone seems to think that on convection settings the fan should stay on. Maybe the manufacturers are trying something new on their products, having fan go on and off. Pretty soon they will come up with a new name as well to confuse us all.

I was the one with the Bosch fan problem and if there is a problem with it good luck.

I had the slide in so it's not the same, but the convection fan should run in convection mode I would think. I now have the Kenmore Elite(Frigidaire) and just checked and the fan came on as soon as I turned on convection bake. Mine does stop turning when I open the door and starts again when I close it.

I would read through the manual because that's where I got the info about my cooling fan and knew it wasn't working. There was a smaller paper inserted into the manual.

I don't know where you bought it but if it was at Sears and there is a problem I believe you have the option of replacing it.

You can give Bosch a call for info, but I will tell you I got conflicting info from their customer service reps and you can't speak to their techs.

My saga dragged on for over 5 months. I hope you don't have a lemon.

My DH and I turned on the convection roast feature, and once the oven reached temperature, the fan went on. I'm going to check and try again tonight with the auto convection bake feature. Bretonb, you are correct, my model has both options.

Nigel-bigel, I'm going to call the salesman today, and ask for some advice. We went through a local store with a great reputation, so I am sure he will respond. I'll let you know what happens.

Tracey, thanks for chiming in. I'm going to look for that information in the manual. Is the cooling fan the same as the main circulating fan that can be seen in the back of the oven, or is it a different fan altogether?

Just a word of advice, don't always trust the salesman. I bought mine from a local appliance store and everyone from the salesman to the owner and two repairmen thought I didn't know how to operate my range. I had to read the insert from the manual to each one of them. I always read the instruction manuals. I knew more about how the range was supposed to operate they did.

The cooling fan is different than the convection fan. It cools the electronics on the slide in range. I don't know about freestanding ones.

Well, happy mystery, it is now working! I turned the oven on when I got home, and gave it a good long test run. Sadly, I had no cookies to bake! However, the fan is now working (there is no cooling fan, btw, just the convection unit inside the oven) and everything is fine.

Perhaps I was a bit impatient this weekend, or maybe it needed a good strong glare and threat of being disassembled to get it going. However, it is working and I am very happy! I will certainly give feedback if I notice a problem again, and I am calling in to my service department jsut in case, so there is something on record.

When I first got my Bosch HGS7282UC convection, I too thought the convection wasn't working, because I couldn't
hear the fan and when I opened the oven door I could see the fan was not spinning. But it turns out the convection works great. The fan is super quiet. You cannot hear it when it's on, and as soon as you open the oven door the blade almost instantaneously stops spinning. It's easy to be fooled into beleiving it's not working.

We love the range.

i just looked at this range today -- well the electric one was in the showroom in white and the gas in ss..so i had to use my imagination a little!
for those of you who have the white, are your other appliances white or ss?
