Eric, I'm the frozen lettuce person and thought I would update you on the LG. Right now we are waiting for a fix-it kit from LG for this problem so apparently it is known to them. I am willing to give it a try but this is the last chance they get. It won't be installed until next week so that probably doesn't help with your decision making. The GE Profile new FD was our other finalist. BTW, LG does make some Kenmores. The sales rep said that if the front door is curved, it's a Maytag conglomerate; if it's flat, it's an LG. HTH

Ooops, think I mixed up the flat and curved doors -- just looked at the LG and it is slightly curved. Also, the single icemaker does a great job of making ice -- lots and quickly. We haven't had any parties since we got it but I would freeze extra ice ahead anyway.

Well folks,... I took the leap and made the purchase. Just walked in from HD. I gotta say,... things turned out waaay better than expected. Turns out, the 1st rep we talked to last night didn't know what they were talking about when it came to pricing. True, the White and Black 25950 were $1499, but the Titanium 25950TT was $1999. She told us ALL THREE WERE priced at $1499,... $1999 would have taken us over budget. Not toooo dissapointing, considering we'd have an extra $400 to spread over to the upcoming DW and range. So reluctantly we agreed to purchase the Smooth White. Fortunately, the warehouse had no whites left,... all Blacks and TT's. so we left HD and made our way to BB to see if they had any Smooth Whites. Surprisingly, they had the 25950TT for $1844 with a 10% in-store mark-down tag on it for $1699 (roghly a 10% in-store promotion until 11/30). I remembered HD has a price-match + 10% policy,... so back to HD we went. They were able to verify both the $1844 BB price AND their 10% in-store Appliance Promotion. To my surprise, not only did HD price match and 10% me, they ALSO honored their own make-shift in-store discount. Long story short (yeah right), I ended up paying $1475.99 for a 25950TT + $0.01 for take-away service + $55.00 for delivery, totalling $1531.00. Add to that $73.80 for MD sales tax and my total out-of-pocket came to $1604.80,... of which we'll get $55.00 back (delivery rebate) AND an additional $50 rebate from our local Utility because the 25950TT is Energy Star compliant. That's $100 coming back in the form of rebates. So really my final cost for the Titanium is $1504.80,... taxes, tags & title! That's simply amazing. I've seen higher prices than this on a $2300 unit in the 'scratch-n-dent' isle. It didn't hurt that I had one of their best sales persons to take over my purchase. This guy knew what he was talking about and he seemed honest about acknowledging the problems LG has been going through, and he freely volunteered the poor customer service. But he did say that most of the problems people were experiencing with LG FD's were from earlier discontinued models. That the 50's were the first to address most of these problems and the 60's have done even a better job of working things out. He mentioned that GE handles their warranty work that doesn't get escalated to LG corporate. That the frost and over freezing problem IS known (Patti), that newer seals and glide tracks are used to make sure the doors close securely (apparently, poor sealing between the doors and the body contributes to the frosting). The 60's have even a newer glide mechanism to make closing more secure. The crisper compartments have been re-worked to resolve freezing (Patti again).

Now this is the part I appreciated from him,... he said of all the 50's he has sold, three had to be returned after the 30-day period and were replaced with the latest model. Two of the replacements were handled in-store while one was handled by LG corporate. Interestingly, the 1st replacement was LG's baby while the latter two were handled by HD. You'd think it would the other way around. I still can't get over him telling me (volunteering) all the LG bad stuff. But he did counter most with how this bad stuff was being addressed. Also of possible interest, I was told today by his manager that Sears was about to pull their brand away from LG and hand it over to Samsung,... AND that GE was about to pull their brand away from Samsung and go it alone. Now this,... you guys need to take with a grain of salt. At one point, it sounded like thick black smoke,... then it would make some sense, then smoke again. Maybe one of the members here might know something of this.

Anyway,... I'm scheduled for a Friday noon-5 delivery. Guess we'll see. I have noticed one thing from these threads,... the later the date, the more positive the post. Between that and the price I figured what-da-hell!

Jeri, that looks like the most recent model. It definitely has some bells and whistles that the LG doesn't but it should given the price. ;-) Obviously the jury is still out on how we feel about LG!

Jeri,... I saw that GE. Expensive, but HD is offering a $250 gift card with it's purchase. They have a GE promotion going on now. I especially like the cool blue lighting. Much better than the hot dirty white bulbs I'm used to seeing. Seeing it with food arranged in it gives it a bigger feel than seeing it empty. I thought the Icemaker would take up more room.

Oh yeah,... you've prolly been here and tried this, but I was just reading through the Owner's Manual, and it talks about how not having the icemaker door completely shut will cause food in the frig section to freeze. It also says that sometimes ice can fall out of the bucket and make completely sealing the icemaker door almost impossible. I know,... can I get more obvious? But still I thought I'd mention it. Gemme some license,... I'm new here and I'm anxious to help. Maybe over anxious!

Eric, I don't mind your suggestions at all. Often the simple solution is the right one. Alas, we've already done that the last time the repairman came so now we're on to the kit.

I have a very quick question. What is more desirable between the Titanium finish and the Stainless finish. What are the real differences between them. All I can get is that one of these finishes is more resistant to finger prints while at the same time, less resistant to tarnishing. I thought that both were metal finishes, but now I'm hearing that one is actually coated plastic. Is there any truth to this?

My refrig is listed as Titanium, which is what I initially thought was the term LG used to refer to all their Stainless appliances. But now I'm hearing different and it is kinda confusing!

Titanium is not Stainless. It's a stainless look-alike. Some look like stainless better than others. They are not shiny like stainless and do not show fingerprints.

Oh OK. So what is more preferred out there? And I guess the oil left behind by fingers is the tarnishing I'm hearing of. If LG's Titanium is just a fancy faux metallic, then I can't see it oxy. Silly me, I thought LG's Titanium was an alternative metallic finish. I've seen those others that looked more like paint,... just didn't think the Titanium finish was one of them. They did a good job,... they fooled me!

Everyone will have a personal opinion on ss or titanium. I felt the ss matched the rest of my kitchen the best. It would help if you could go to the store and see them side by side to know which is more to your liking. I've not heard of a tarnishing issue. I use a wonderful product called Sheila Shine on all my stainless appliances which keeps them from showing fingerprints. I apply it every few weeks (or less) in a couple minutes time.

I think kharmony is right -- depends on how it looks in your kitchen. We have the titanium finish but the refrigerator is the only stainless vertical surface on that wall of the kitchen so it doesn't seem to 'fight' with anything. But had it been installed by our ovens, I think it might have looked a little strange. Here's a photo so you can see how it looks on adjacent walls.

Well,... its been delivered. The installation was not that smooth. HD's delivery men didn't level properly, seemed confused negotiating the double front door (strange), and said they weren't allowed to remove any packaging materials (even more strange). So I spent 30 minutes removing all the blue tape and stuff. Set the temp controls to the recommended settings fr burn-in and now I'll just wait and see. I did discover AFTER the left two mean scratches and dents on the front. Had to remove the foam blocks and clear covering to do the discovery. I'm thinking I know exactly when and where it happened. They decided to remove the front handles to get it throug the front door. Why,...I have no idea. Our front entrance is a double swing door that when completely open is slightly more than 72 inches. Anyway, when they removed the handles they left two dents about an inch above each handle. Theres also a nice dent/scratch on the freezer door, and I think I know when that happened as well. Problem is, both of these blimishes weren't visible until I removed all the packing. No wonder they seemed rushed to get outta here. I prolly would have refused delivery had I noticed these before they left. I'm thinking I should call HD right about now.

According to what I'm reading, it'll be at least 24 hours before I can realize normal operation, so I'll return then.

kharmony - This Titanium isn't that bad, in fact it looks pretty nice in the kitchen. Our kitchen is rather large and the box resides by it's self over by the small vegetable sink. The other appliances,... CT gas range, DW, oven stack, nnd microwave are over on the other side of the kitchen near the larger main sink and island. So matching may not be a problem when we replace those items.

Wish me luck with my call to HD. I'm thinking I missed my best opportunity for a solution to these dents when they left. Geez!

Dang Patti, your kitchen is very similar to ours. The back doot leading from the kitchen and throuh the mud room then the back yard is positioned just like ours. The only difference is our oven stack is the double oven and the microwave is on the adjacent wall to the right instead of the left. Now which one is that we're looking at in your pic? We got the 950, can't tell whether your's is the 950 or the 960. Whatever it is, it's gorgeous and looks right at home! Nice kitchen,... nice tone too! Oh, and our CT ranch isn't as close to the fridge. I'm jealous! Whew nice kitchen. Oh I said that alreay.

BTW, this is the wife speaking now. Eric is busy over there pushing buttons right now. I think he likes the chimes.

OK,.. got a call back from HD yesterday. They're gonna replace our unit. Seems there's a window for calling with damage due to delivery and installation, 48 hours. We called within the hour. They also offered me a $150 discount if I thought I could live with the dents-n-scratches. Nah,.. think I'll pass! So we're scheduled for a new delivery for the same model.

Patti - how long did it take for you to get your first ice cube? We haven't got ONE yet. Thought for sure at least six cubes (one cycle) would have dropped while we slept. Nothing. The water works but no ice. Other than that, the unit is quite nice. Been checking our lettuce too! LOL!

OK,... today is one week with our new LG LFX25950TT, and I've yet to see one single cube of ice come out of it. I'm worried. They scheduled us for a replacement delivery, but ONLY because HD's delivery guys put a couple dents into the face of it while bringing it into the home. I'm wondering if I should trust that the missing ice is just this 950TT or an indicator of a model-wide problem. I'm wondering if I should call HD back and arrange for the 960ST to be deliverd instead,... prolly would require me to add a few more dollars to the mix, but I'm thinking it might be worth it. I really wished LG did the 960 in Titanium too,... HD says they don't, but LG's site says they do. I know Sears does the Kenmore 960 look-a-like in Titanium,... but it's way more expensive.

Eric, your ice maker has a problem. My fridge produced ice very quickly and continues to. I think it is just your machine. BUT if you're nervous about this model, it might be worth it to change it out for the other one.

Is it dispensing water/ I had a freiend install her new fridge and forget to reestablish water flow to the icemaker/water dispenser. They turned it off for the new fridge to be place into postion and forgot to turn the valve back on. She called for service and the guys who came to service her broken fridge just turned the water on......

Patti - Yeah,... I haven't had a cube of ice out of this thing since they brought it in here last Tuesday. And I am kinda nervous, not so much with the model itself but more with the customer service I read about coming from LG. I did purchased the 4 year EW though, but I hear that's not that much better.

footballmom - Yeah,... I am getting water out of the dispener, so I know the water line is attached and turned on. Nice call! Just no ice. I've even tried turning the icemaker off for a while, just in case the switch was reversed somehow (I've seeen that before on certian things),... no change. I can't get a clear look into the water cells to see if there's water actually in either of the six cells, can't hear whether water is filling up the cells eiher (this thing is so quite when closed). If water (by now ice) is in those cells, then it's got to be a problem with the mechanism. I took some ice out of the fridge under the wet-bar in the basement and put it in the LG bucket to ses if the auger worked and ice would fall out of the dispenser,... it works well and the cubes fell. But it's not making ice on it's own. HD says it maybe because of the delivery damage, but I can't see those bumps causing this,... I wouldn't think this thing is that tender!

Im' just on the fence as to accept another 950 or add a few bucks and have them bring out a 960. Upside,... I hear I'll be getting a newer model with a few more features and some problems worked out (Patti, I hear the food freezing in the crisper thing was fixed with the 960 by way of their newly designed drawers). Downside,... I'll be getting a unit not as aesthetically pleasing (I like the gray case and trim better than the black). Hell,... I guess I could always spend way more than we budgeted and opt for the 980. Yeah right,... I'd then be updating you good folks on how I made out in divorce court. LOL!

OK, Eric, and any others following the frozen lettuce saga, they installed the fix-it kit from LG and, miracle of miracles, no frozen lettuce, parsley or apples. Hooray! So we'll see how it survives Thanksgiving.

Still sans ice Patti. (Incidently, you're talking to Shawn, I'm the wife and Eric's the hubby. But no matter). I'm curious. Does you kit involve new crisper drawers? The sales person told me the fix for freezing crispers was a combination of a control board and new drawers. Did they replace any electronic components? He said the fix would in the end leave your interior looking like a 960, but the display would retain the individual buttons as oppose to the buttons under glass.

Well at any rate, they're delivering our replacement tomorrow. Another 950TT. I was a heart-beat from stepping up to the GE PFSS6PKWSS which which surprisingly has come down in price. When we first started shopping, it was competing with the 980ST, now our HD has it paired more closely with the 960ST, both in how it's displayed and in price. Hope I don't regret this dicision!

Hi Shawn, the fix did not involve drawers or electronics. They took off the panel that covers the center back of the refrigerator and replaced that with a new, hopefully improved version. It looks just like it did before. So perhaps there are two fixes or someone gave the sales person info that isn't quite right. Sorry about the icemaker == mine works like a champ. I can see why you would change to another brand given the experience so far. We just really want appliances that work and don't need to be fiddled with!
