Well last night was our Annual Bunco Halloween Party. I went as a Fairy hahahahah!!!!

Anyone else dressing up for Halloween?

I'm gonna be.............entertaining a bunch of kids (young and old) at our church Harvest Party.

Think I'll go as me. Cool, huh?

I'm going to dress as the crazy old lady handing out candy with the stupid poodle dressed in a purple tutu!
Then I might be the crabby old lady hiding out in the back of the house in the dark drinking her scotch!

Oakie doakie, I will add some of my 'treasures'. The first was my mother's wash stand.It is really tacky looking, with the same paint that my mom put on it many years ago. I have it in my bedroom and use it as a bureau, and a plantstand. ( Most of my african violets are on it.) The door has broken off since this pic was taken. Nolon was going to fix it, but that hasn't happened. The next is the knick knack shelf that Nolon made for me, about 20 years ago. The third is a saucer shelf that he made for me about the same time . The next is the case that Nolon made at the same time as the first ones. I don't know why the sides look like that, they are actually very straight..not 'bulging'. My next pic was my Dad's chair, before he married my mother. It still has the paint that mama painted it. She was really into 'cream color'. :-) And the last is the bureau that I inherited, of my paternal grandmother's, when my mom passed. Sorry that it is not more visible. I have a bookcase stacked on top of it, and my jewelry case, and other stuff....too much to remove for a pic. Unlike most of my stuff, grandma's bureau is still in as good condition as it was when I got it. I am rather hard on furniture. I have my dad's writing desk, and may post a pic of it when I get the obstacles removed from in front of it so I can take a pic. :-( I also have a nice large case that Nolon built me for my stereo and records. It is on rollers. Right now it is inaccessible for getting a picture....too many plants on and around it. :-( I have a very heavy library table, a small buffet,(a large one that was mate to it was severly damaged while in storage), an antique dinningroom table ( the one I work puzzles on), and other antique tables of various sizes. And (oh yes) an antique clock that Nolon bought when he was 9 years old , and a couple of picture frames, and kerosine lamps. But then, I am almost an antique muself! LOL ! Marie, I love that Japanese side table. It would be great to set below my dinningroom windows to set plants on. :-) Or in our vestibule. One of my tables sort of resembles your green one. Mine is green also, but has straight tapered legs, with deep groves the length of them. I have no good place for it, so it is in our pantry, under the lower shelf. I have a feeling that you and I have similar households. Julie, I love your table. A friend of Nolon's gave him a low table that he made. It is/was a glass-covered case for arrowheads, not it also has my butterfly collection in it too. The legs were made from an axle of an ancient wagon that the friend found in the Idaho mountains. It is not nearly as pretty as your table, but is valued because of it's history. I like your stove, and the pooches look cute in front of it. :-) Kathy, your apothecary chests are really neat. I can imagine how much you treasure them. Woody, your treasures are kind of in the same category as mine. I had my mother's Victrolla (sp?) phonograph ( it was her mother's to begin with). I left it with my oldest sister while between homes. She took out the 'insides' and turned it into a liquor cabinet!!! Up until then, it was a working phonograph! I was very disappointed, to say the least, but there was little I could do about it. I left it with her. I would be happy if my washstand was refinished like yours. Mine's mirror, with the towel rack beneath, is out in our storage shed. Wow! Chelone! That sofa is great! How often have you recovered it? :-) The clock is great also. A preacher friend went into making grandfather clocks in his older years. Did a good job of it too. One of his beginning wood work jobs was a corner shelf. He gave it to me. It sets in my bedroom, on the stand by the head of my bed. He was not happy with it. But I value it. Michelle. I am looking forward to more pics from you. You all have been up to great things. I've been wrestling with future garden plans. Again. We had to hire engineers to work on the water issues on our property. Ideas I had wanted to employ are just not going to fly with the City of Atlanta at this time. It's very sad, they are so "behind" in allowing conservation of resources and are mostly concentrating on forcing people to do expensive and crazy things. I hired a landscape architect to help with ideas, she made the most beautiful and unusual plan for me but the engineers say it won't work at all. I had it priced out, and without "everything" it was more than my budget (which I think is generous). Hubby also put the kaibosh on a few ideas...I guess that's OK. He was sort of trying to save some $$ however we'll have to spend the same money anyway pretty much in the long run (but we don't have to do it all at once this way). I will sadly end up with grass again. I worked for 10 years ridding every single bit of grass from almost an acre, weed grass took over this year when I could do nothing (flooding tears out every plant I place)...So I am trying to wrap my head around various problems and how to solve them in a logical step by step order so that I can move forward but not so far as to make mistakes that could be wiped out with more big rains (which is funny, since it's droughty again here. Not much rain in a month, almost everything looks DEAD :) I am considering if I want cottage garden space or not. Or perhaps it is more like how much cottage garden space do I want and where would the best place for that be? I've learned my front yard is not "it" (way too hot and droughty last 5 years). So I physically have not done much, but with weather cooling soon I am hoping to get there soon....

Plantmaven- Your garden pictures are so beautiful...but that little bird is just charming :) Gardenweed- Your peonies are lovely. We have some that came with the place that look very similar...and they have a nice fragrance. Thyme- Your garden is so pretty! I'm looking forward to seeing all your new veggies, next summer. Freezengirl- I do have Walker's Low catmint. It's in the kitchen garden. For some reason, the barn kitties leave it alone out there, but when I try to plant it closer to the house...disaster! LOL That's one reason I have so much lavender. Wren-garden, I have my blueberries mixed in with everything else, but I don't put acid on my soil, either. If you decide you need to add acid, then they'll look great with azaleas, rhodedendrons and hydrangeas (if you like the blue ones). I don't grow any of these (the first two are poisonous to horses) but I'm pretty sure they all like acid soil. Think about what else would grow under/with pine trees. As for deer...they can be a challenge, but ours are so darn cute, we try to make the garden work with them, rather than trying to get rid of them. I've read all deer are different, depending on where you live, how many they are (how hungry they are) and if there are so many...they just devastate everything. That being said, we've had good luck with butterfly bushes, lavender, catmint, bee balm, daisies, coneflowers, cosmos, marigolds, zinnias, peonies, daffodils, lilacs, plum trees, clematis, columbine, pansies, and mints. remy, For your not-run-of-the-mill hosta, any requests? (Not sure I'll see your response in time, but hey...) I've got Golden Tiara, which is gold on the edges, a few unnamed types that are large-leaved and blue-green, a small leafed bluish type that I think is Blue Cadet... but if I don't know if someone wants it I'm not splitting any of it. They're just kind of big right now. By next year I'd have Little Black Scape ready for dividing, but I don't know if it's there yet. Or you could really disappoint your husband with a teeny tiny hosta. I've got three teeny unnamed ones with leaves the size of my pinky fingernail, and Pandora's Box, which is even tinier (that whole plant is the size of my pinky fingernail!) I don't know what everyone wants, so I'm just going to see what I can pry out of the hard-as-concrete ground. Wish me luck. Ruth, isn't it Sunday? The message says June 5th, which is a Sunday.

Adorable picture, Shaun. Did you make the strawberry ghosts again this year? You always have such a fun Halloween party from what I can tell from the pictures.

If I do anything other than work, I may dress like a cowboy just for fun. I never do anything for Halloween usually... I think it would be fun to try to find a party or maybe to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal this year. The first two years I lived in my apartment, I bought candy in case I had any trick or treaters. No one came by and I had to eat all the candy myself. Last year, I didn't buy anything and 4 people came knocking. I didn't even open the door. I was making a meatloaf at the time, I guess I could have given them all a scoop of raw ground beef.

I think this year I'll buy apples and toothbrushes to give out and get my door egged.

We don't do Halloween over here although the idea of a dressup party is catching on in the big cities amongst the grownups who go to nightclubs.

No dressing up here either, I'm just going to hand out candy and be Grandma.

I've been teasing Makayla because she's going to be a Princess. Of course. I told her that wasn't a costume, if she's just going as herself. Bud will be Spiderman, but without a mask. He hates masks and hates face paint even more.

Ashley is going to be a police officer. I don't think I even WANT to see her costume....

Ann - that Fairy costume was for our Bunco Group, we had our party Wednesday night. But for another Halloween Party we're going to, Lou and I are going as a couple of Mexicans. I have this battery operated "humping" chihuahua that we'll strap to Lou's leg.... hahahahah should be hilarious!

Shaun, you're a hoot!! Did you grant magic wishes??

I can't dress up this year and won't be home to give out my treats. We're going to Parent's Weekend at our son's college and so must be staid and respectable. I will be bringing my "Bubba Teeth" along though and will slip them in occasionally for a laugh with the family but that's about it!

Shaun- I love it! I'm also going to be a fairy, a fairy godmother at DGS' Jayden's 5th birthday party (halloween themed) tomorrow. My costume is much simpler, but more than I've done in a few years. Your crowd sounds like much more fun than mine! LOL

I just found out I am going to be a chauffeur. My mom's sister is coming to Philadelphia so they can attend a high school reunion in upstate PA. Guess who is driving them there? Me. I really don't mind at all. The leaves will be magnificent in the mountains.

When I get home I too will be the friendly lady at the door with a bowl of candy. I get tons of kids and for two hours I just stand there and hand out candy. Hope the weather is good.

Ok, I'm going to be Octomom...long black wig, big lips, and 8 plastic babies....I know is bad...heeeheeee

Ok, so today I dressed up the kids for a fall festival that I thought had a costume contest...and um...it didn't? My kids were the only ones in costume. My poor son was mortified. I feel so bad. I read the wrong thing...er. Andrew is the Grim Reaper and Grace is a Lady Bug....a berry berry bossy lady bug;)

oh NO!!! maggie! I am laughing - but feeling sooo awful for your son! (I'm sure Gracie won't suffer any lasting damage from being the only bossy ladybug - LOL) but the only person dressed up and being the grim reaper????? LOL! oh that's just awful. I'm sorry....

yeah Humphrey the humping dog is in my closet...I'll take highest bid.

and yeah - I'd take Eric, too. and if you've seen the second season, I thought godric was pretty cool too.

I have a fake ponytail, and am painting a t shirt and apron with Merlotte's Bar and Grill...and some vampire marks on my neck.

Octomom will be AWESOME! I want to see pics!

Oh how funny -- the only ones in costume. Reminds me of a scene from Legally Blonde.

I'm going to a party and will wear my favorite costume. I borrow a patient gown from work (hospital) -- the kind that flaps open in the back -- and I have a fake bare behind to wear with it.

Shaun -- a Mexican?? I wonder what the Mexicans wear to dress up as North Americans? Humping Boston Terriers?

I wish I knew what school I might be working at on Friday. If it's elementary, I'd definitely dress up..I don't think Middle School or High School kids get the same kick out of it. LOL

I need to come up with something though..

My three-person posse at work hope to defend our best team title again this year with our latest costume. I'm going as Kate Gosselin (yep, got the wig and everything... and even got blue sample contact lenses from my optometrist... part of it says "demo" on it, lol) carrying one kid and having another tied to my leg. Our buddy Chris is going as Jon all tricked out with that despicable Ed Hardy crap and a video camera pointed at him at all times. And Barb is going as all Jon's bimbos rolled into one, dragging the other six kids. We hope to win. Last year, four of us won going as Sarah Palin, a moose, Putin and Bristol.

Cool you got the blue lens, don't forget the push up bra! lol I was actually thinking of having hubs be Jon Gosselin with my Octomom ...we could be the couple from helll sort of thing but couldn't think how to make him Jon Gosselin beside sporing a douche bag smile? ...can i say that on here? hheeee

The Ed Hardy stuff!...hmmm who has it we can borrow from? Great idea!

Chris borrowed his Ed Hardy shirt but he was able to augment it with iron-ons from Michael's. They are $4 each and you can hardly tell the difference. He also made big tiger iron-ons to put on his jeans. I actually can't wait to see it Friday.
