polished carrara marble owners

I would really like to have honed cararra marble, but it is currently cost prohibitive :-). I do really like the look of the polished cararra, and I have read a lot of posts on the pros/cons.

To those that have polished cararra marble on their countertops, how are they holding up?

I don't know where you're located but in my area (So. Cal) honed cararra is really affordable. I just got a slab for my master bath counter and it was about $12/sq ft.
I really wanted calacutta gold ($35/sq ft) but I could not justify the price.
So check around. You may be able to find a stone yard that has honed slabs.
I'm really happy with the way mine looks. Haven't moved in yet so I can't comment on how it holds up. It was sealed with the miracle 511 penetrating sealer though.

Hi California dreamer, I can't believe how inexpensive honed cararra is there! It is around $70 a square feet in my area (well, not really IN my area, it is about 6 hours away, because no one in my area carries it).

I have to drive 3 hours just to get to a 'slab yard'.

Yes, I live in a small town ;-). I'm located in Arkansas.

For me I'd prefer honed. I have a shinny marble backsplash in my kitchen, that I put in, and the tiles have areas that reflect differently from the neighboring tile. That is because they are not 100% flat relative to its neighbor. With a honed tile you wont see all the wonky reflections that can occur. If you have a wonderful tiler that wont be an issue. I am a novice and did my own tile for the fun of it. The honed tile will show less spotting (etching) too.

Lansdale Carrara Marble Backsplash- Polished or Honed??

Hi - thanks for responding! The Lansdale has a creamy, taupey tone which I think (hope!) sort of blends with the copper. Regular Carrara didn't because it is all gray and white, but Lansdale seemed to blend it all-- the brown tones bring out the copper, and then then the whiter tiles tile in with the cabinets, while ones that are grayer tie in with my stainless steel.. I know the galaxy has the sparkle/flecks, but in general I think of it more as a neutral since you pretty much just see black counters. I didn't want anything too sparkly/glass/iridescent even though I LOVED that at first, but it competed with the sparkle, whereas the Lansdale is muted while still being warm and bringing some interest. Thoughts? I can't think of anything that would incorporate copper as I don't want to do a dark backsplash, and don't want accents because it is a very small area. I wanted neutral, and soothing and something to warm up kitchen.. I saw a picture of something who used it on this forum and looked similar to mine. Granted she has very dark chocolate counters (not granite) but i was thinking of my copper like the brown.

Mineral Spirits for streaks on polished carrara marble?

Wanted to run a quick question by the group. We just had polished Carrara marble countertops installed two weeks ago. Have sealed them three times using Miracle 511 porous plus. On the third time, I used paper towels to absorb the excess sealant. Found streaks and an oily sheen this morning. I called Miracle 511 who recommended putting mineral spirits on the counter and letting them sit for 5 minutes then wiping off with cotton towel. Has anyone used mineral spirits on their polished marble? Just want to make sure it is safe before I do this tonight. Thanks, E

Bought from Family Kitchen in Salem, MA Countertop: Bianco Carrara polished marble 3cm Paint: C2 Fresco on walls; trim is C2 custom to match the cabinets Tiles: Ann Sacks Elements series in 'Tropic' color. They are field tiles in 2x4 size with 0.35inch thickness. Hi Jennymama...there is a source in alabama for honed marble, which you can get for $6.50/sq.ft. (contractor's $5.99) it is www.floorbuzz.com. the marble is local and was used in the lincoln memorial, washington monument, etc...the price you were quoted was waaaayyyyyy too high, even by calif. standards...i can find it here for $10/sq. ft...i am going to get a sample of the alabama marble because even with the shipping to california, it comes out to $8.25/sq.ft. good luck!!! rachel

Hi I carrara in my master bath on vanity and tub surround. I LOVE The look. I was sooo paranoid at first wiping every water drop up, etc. But now...well I slide a lot and it still looks great!!!! I have no visible scratches that I can see but I do use padding on my things - soap dispenser, tissue box, etc. so I do protect it that way but other than that..nothing I do is special to it...

Yes it is polished and no the tub surround is in 4 pieces but grouted thinly so it to me is not noticable at all. I really need to post pictures. I am waiting on two photos to be completed for the wall and then I will post but the marble I just adore.
