Marble Subway Tile Backsplash--Honed or Polished & Why?
Comments (2)If you're doing a polished granite counter I think the honed splash looks better. Also, the honed won't show etching from wayward squirts of lemon and other citrus, or tomato sauce splattering as much....See MoreGrout color with Lansdale Carrara marble
Comments (9)Beautiful tile. Since you have such a variation in color from one tile to the next I would think either grout color would work. It would just depend on if you like the look of a brighter white grout line, which I happen to like. I'm surprised to see your carrara tile with so much cream/gold in it. Can you tell me what brand it is and where you bought it? I'm planning to use some carrara subway tiles too but I think I need something with a lot more grey....See Morehoned marble counters w/polished marble back splash?
Comments (9)Hi Kateskouros, I think it's a lovely idea as the honed tends to lose some of it's drama of the veining and the backsplash would be a great place to show it off! I think I saw early pics of your slabs and they are beautiful! One thing to think about, our polished countertops have been in now for 5 months and still look fabulous, even have stood up to spills that I thought it wouldn't. Now, we have an etch or two, but they are small and nearly impossible to find. We used a polished marble backsplash tile - Thassos and I put a different sealer on it than is on the counters. Remember, on the backsplash, you can use something that is more durable and not necessarily food safe because you aren't going to prepare your food right on it. The sealer we used sits a bit on the surface, I would not have liked on the counters because it takes away a bit of the glorious marble feel. I don't care on the backsplash a bit and it makes everything wipe off beautifully! As for stains or etching on the backsplash, we don't have either. Good luck! I can't wait to see your end result because so far your selections sound lovely!...See MoreCarrara advice--honed or polished?
Comments (28)First of all, Happy Thanksgiving to all! The crooked sink was fixed but now there's a real problem. The day after I resealed the marble with 511, a large discoloration developed. I'm hoping you knowledgeable gardenwebbers can take a look and tell me what you think: I called 511 and the guy I spoke with said the color change could possibly be the result of a reaction of the 511 with the previous sealer. He recommended that I wipe the stone with mineral spirits to clean up any excess sealer, then try liquid poultice. I tried the mineral spirits and there was no improvement. Haven't gotten to the liquid poultice yet. And here's the peculiar thing: there are 3 pieces of marble in the kitchen; all 3 were sealed and resealed in the exact same way, but only this piece developed a problem. Why would that happen? I'm going to call the fabricator tomorrow, if he's even reachable. Meanwhile, all ideas appreciated....See MoreMBF16
