OUTLOOK 2010- Missing Mail

I recently installed Outlook 2010 on my laptop. I'm making progress learning how it works, but when I opened it this morning, the messages that were in my Inbox are gone. I assumed it was because they had been archived, even though I had marked the option NOT to archive items from my Inbox.

When I go to the Archive folder (FILE-OPEN-OPEN OUTLOOK DATA FOLDER)it shows 1.71 MB of data. When I open it, however, there is nothing there. No messages from my Inbox...only a line that says CALENDAR, with zero entries.

Could someone please help me understand where I'm going wrong?

Try importing from the Outlook Data Folder. The instructions for adding the Customer Links toolbar to Outlook, then adding the Import/Export Wizard to that toolbar can be found in Help on the File Menu.

I've tried importing from the Outlook Data Folder. When I open the folder it shows zero in the Inbox, Sent, etc. so I am still not able to find my missing messages.

Regarding adding the Customer Links toolbar....when I go to FILE-HELP, could you be more specific about how to add the Customer Links toolbar? There are several options and I'm not sure which to choose. I've tried searching for the instructions, but haven't found what I need.

Hi Mike, First thank you for your reply. Yes, that's correct. Now, what makes it even more strange, is that when you sent me your reply, and I clicked on the link, as expected Firefox opened it, but when I scrolled down to answer you I had to log in again, but this time it wouldn't accept my information (User/Password)so I went back to IE and entered the site name, computer am now replying. No, the Dell tech made sure IE was default in all categories. That's what we thought originally that somehow an area had not been checked, but IE is the default. BarbB

Your are using Outlook no doubt? In my Outlook 2007 I open the program, click Tools, click Options. In the new window click 'Mail setup' then click the Send/Receive button and adjust to your heart's content. I leave my Outlook open and set to seek new emails every 10 minutes but do not allow it to seek them when Outlook is closed.

I myself (having used Outlook 2007) don't know enough about these things to know whether it might be something about your recipients' mail settings or not. But if you're able to send an email successfully to yourself with the image showing inline, it might mean that something about your version of Outlook (what version is it, btw? 2003? 2007? 2010?) is triggering the removal of the image from the body of the message. But I would think if that were the case, then your recipients would at least get the notification "some images have been removed for your safety; click here to display them." Incidentally, you said you sent the test emails to yourself. I take it you viewed those messages in your offline client (Outlook). Did you also view them in your webmail to see if they displayed inline there as well? As another resource, you might want to check the Outlook forums here. I've used them in the past and have gotten good help. I did a quick search there for your issue and found two from 2010 here and here. In neither case did the OP continue the thread, so I have no idea if anything was resolved, but the answers didn't seem to encouraging. :-( But if your version of Outlook is more recent than those available at the time, there may be different settings to try, so you may wish to inquire there anyway. ???

Sorry, I typoed..it should have read 'custom' links.Commands (like Import & Export) can't be added to the standard tabs, you have to create a custom tab first.

Here's how:
Open File, Then click Options. Choose 'Customize Ribbon'
On the right side at the bottom click "New Tab". Right click on the new tab and name it whatever you like. Now look to the left side to the 'Choose Commands From' dialog box. Click the down pointing arrow and choose ' Commands Not in the Ribbon' find Import & Export and click the Add button to move it over to your newly created tab.

About your missing mail, did you have an earlier version of Outlook installed and functional before you installed 2010?
If I am reading and interpreting correctly, your mail was fine after the upgrade..then it just disappeared? If that is correct, I would look through all of the folders to verify that a folder did not accidentally get moved.
