I just quickly looked at office depot.. Really lots of monitors, almost all are under 200 dollars. LED only is a slight diff for newest stuff. LED supposed to be quicker, brighter, more colorful & use something like 40% less energy than lcd... way longer life too than fluorescent back lighting on lcd's. All I looked at seem to have hdi & vga outputs. My TV was bought right before hd.. hybrid digital / analog huge thing. Analog 4x3 screen, sort of square looking.. that shows wide screen with black border above & below the video for wide screen broadcasts. Regular full screen now is mostly commercials. Odd at first.. but now its normal to me.

Those of you wanting a laptop, definitely read the post Have you switched from a PC to a laptop? lots of good points in it, not only Windows computers but Mac's as well. My pain management doc has a Sony Vaio that he loves as well as 2 Mac laptops; he's mentioned one other but can't justify buying another. Wish I could remember what brand it was. Before buying be sure to research. As johnmari says about her Dell experience, unfortunately, that's what most people say. They also string you along until your 30 days are up to return it, then end up sending you a similar system, usually minus premium software you've paid for; and it's a refurbished machine. I have Windows and a Mac.. While I've been using the Mac mini, Windows is just so much easier and once I get the Windows machine finished (still not done building/adding parts) I will switch to that full time. Not sure if I posted in the other thread about our Compaq laptop, I bought it for my son when he graduated in 2003, that thing was a floor model and is still running. We blew a drive out in an airport (got hit against something) but installing the new drive was painless. I would buy one again, depending on how much they are compared to a Sony. I love the look of the Sony screens; we own 3 monitors with the XBrite technology..

Hi Steve, I do love the TV (great sound, picture as nice as my analogue TV downstairs with only regular cable ... both could use digital cable for a clearer picture, wonderful remote, very pretty TV but so SHINY the black that I can see my reflection... wish my TV stand was wider and taller) but I do not like the pedestal look on my Night Stand (2.5" on each side hangs and to me is distracting in the pretty bedroom) and I am seriously thinking of taking it back (but upset that the sneaky salesman has on the slip that LCD's are not returnable when he made me sign the screen without reading anything and then the person came to bring it to my car and I was very sick and when I asked to see the slip before signing, he said it was everything we discussed) and buying the 26" white Sharp LCD that swivels that was only $30 less for so much less screen with only the added swivel feature... but is in white and will not overpower the bedroom I feel. I just would have to order it from Target.com and have to pay about $26 in shipping to me and then back (UPS $26 around the sales guy said who I spoke to online at Target.com today) if I do not like the off-white color that has some gray in it. It has wonderful reviews but the Toshiba had better reviews and the reviewers are right about the sound quality on the Toshiba... it is very nice and I love the TV but it is TOO black for my bedroom and too big to me. I was sick all day and now not sure what to do. It is a beautiful TV but really stands out in my white room and I wish I could just put it in the family room an buy a white TV for my bedroom that is smaller despite the smaller picture. But my TV in my family room is only about 7 years old (Black Hitachi.. 27" that cost me $199 and looks nice to me.. heavy but not as heavy as my 14.5 year old 25" Samsung TV was). Maybe I can negotiate a deal on the extended and the 26"... I sure wish PC Richards would have the Sharp TV in white. Maybe I can ask if the can order it that way for me?

I recommend the full panel at least once yearly for all cats greater than 12 years, including the T4 and UA, whether or not the cat needs general anesthesia. As Laurie mentioned, these tests screen out major diseases long before clinical signs show a problem, which is usually late in the disease and harder to manage. The full panel includes the other major liver enzyme (ALKP) which is more sensitive for liver damage that ALT. Having a BUN, creatinine, PCV, and total solids is not enough to differentiate between dehydration and renal disease should the BUN and creatinine be elevated. You need to know if the cat can concentrate urine in the face of dehydration- if not, then you have renal disease. Without a UA there is no way to tell. There is no screening for diabetes in that mini panel. Need a blood glucose and UA to check for glucose in the urine. The full panel includes electrolytes, which are very important for normal heart rhythm and can be out of balance in certain diseases. Of course all animals need a full physical exam before having GA to check for arrhythmias, heart murmurs, increased lung sounds, lymph node sizes (indicating infection or cancer), and other signs of disease. All cats >12 years need annual T4 screening. Period. There is absolutely no reason to make a cat of any age suffer with dental pain for the rest of its life, nor to risk kidney, liver, or heart infection from dental disease. Old age is not a disease, it simply makes one more likely to have certain diseases, which are manageable but only if you know they are present. I've anesthetized all sorts of old animals, some with multiple diseases, safely because 1) I knew what diseases were present and how to choose my anesthesia drugs to cause the least problems for those diseases 2) I monitor my patients very well 3) I adjust IV fluid levels as needed based on diseases present if any 4) when possible I optimize the patient's health prior to GA (not possible in emergencies of course). My recommendation is to have the full panel and if everything is OK, proceed with the dental. He may never need another dental, and you certainly don't want to wait for him to get a kidney, liver, or heart infection and THEN put him under GA. And I'd do the full panel once yearly to screen for these important problems that can be managed when caught early.
