Fitting in a regular depth fridge

I plan to purchase a new refrigerator and have been looking at both counter-depth and regular depth fridges. The counter-depth fridges would definitely look much nicer and cleaner but when i open up the door i can't imagine fitting everything i need after grocery shopping! i know it's only a 6 inch difference and many people have posted that they like not having fridges so deep but NOT me! besides..regular depth fridges cost about $500 less!! go figure!

i read somewhere that people considered breaking down the wall behind the fridge so that its recessed. that way i could push my fridge in some and still have regular depth. i have a contractor working on other things and may consider asking him to do this. does anyone have experience with this or have any advice on why this may or may not be a good idea? any advice would be greatly appreciated!
