I found the really interesting part was in the register article from today which showed they were still offering the infected download on some of their sites even after being informed of it and being directly informed that they still had it available on their site. They finally just today did remove it and the register updated on it, that is entirely too long to leave it on site and active after having had full knowledge of it. It was from China as were most of the photo frame ones and some of those usb thumb drives that came with a backdoor a while back. Looks like China wants to know everything about us. are you using it on your lap on a soft surface that could be closing off the vents on the bottom? Laptops will get very over heated if their vents are not fully open and over heating will cause one to shut off to prevent further damages, the noise could be a fan that is going bad. I think I would have it looked at. Also some use the power of the pc through the usb port and some plug into a power supply, those have much more power and strength to cool with out tasking the laptop usb power supply. Probably. This is actually a pretty common failure mode for a battery. Computers and other devices that indicate a battery percentage calculate that percentage by comparing the battery's voltage to a table of standard voltage values correlating to different levels of charge for that particular battery. When your battery is showing 90 percent it's being charged because the computer is plugged in, and the computer is being powered by line current from the electrical outlet. As soon as you pull the plug this puts the battery under load, and its voltage drops very quickly, most likely due to high internal resistance in the battery. Your computer was fooled into thinking that the battery was 90 percent charged because the voltage attained a value that in a good battery would indicate 90 percent charge, but in this battery it doesn't. Notebook computer batteries can fail fairly quickly if they're left charging constantly, as many are. Newer computers may have better charging control circuits to somewhat lessen the effects of this, but a good battery-saving practice is still to unplug a notebook computer when you're not using it rather than leaving it plugged in 24/7. (This is because, even with charging control circuits, the computer will keep the battery topped back up to 100 percent every time it drops a percent or two, creating repeated charge/discharge cycles that shorten a battery's life.) The Seagate was very easy to use. By set up, I basically mean I had to plug it into my router and create a user name and password, create an account for my mother-in-law so she could watch movies from her house that I store on my device, and create non-public folders on the Seagate to store my movies and music in. If you want to be able to access your movies and music on it from your phone or something, you'll also have to download the Seagate app onto your phone or iPad. It is called a network attached storage (NAS) but it's a NAS for non-techy people who don't want to configure network permissions and stuff like that. It is really nice to have it and I especially enjoy that my Apple TV recognizes it automatically because it's got some kind of special thing that communicates with Smart TVs so you can effortlessly access the movies and music on it.
