What can cause your computer do this?

When I go from one page to another a hour glass looking thing comes up and the page sticks for a while not letting the page or web site come up.I am thinking about taking my computer in for my computer guy to work on but thought I ask you folks since you all been so nice to help me before and I will admit you are free even though as much as you have helped me I feel I owe alot to you all.Thanks alot.Hope you can under stand my question.Judy

You need to provide more info - what computer, XP, Vista, which browser do you use, what protection do you use - virus-spyware programs, firewall?

could be some type of malware on your pc or it could be a very slow internet connection ... how do you connect? dial up, dsl cable what?
could be you have too much stuff running and your pc is having to do things slowly since the resources are being spread thin, or could be low on Memory.

Would need to know the specs for the pc, what brand what model number what amount of Ram memory is in it and what operating system and browser?

In the mean time if you do not have superantispyware free then get it install, hit update, select your C drive to scan , run full scan allow it to clean anything it finds.

make sure your antivirus program is fully updated with the latest definitions and run a full system scan.
Do you have a firewall on the pc?

Maybe this will help some more: I use Photobucket and load the pics I want to post there. I edit the photo, I resize it to the larger of the options. Go back to "album" and select your picture and click on the HMTL tag. It will say "copied". Go to edit at the top of your screen and copy. Go back to GW and write your post. then put your curser (?) where you want your photo and go to edit and "paste". You should see a long thread of letters etc. When you review your post you SHOULD see the picture the way you want it. It seems easy to me now but it wasn't at first and I needed all the help I could get.

I know this is a long time coming. But I remembered this question when I ran across the following information recently. If you have XP Home, Go to your control panel, Double Click the Scanners and Cameras folder to open Connect your camera and turn it on then Right-click on the Camera Icon Left Click on Properties Left Click on the "Events" Tab in the Camera Pop-Up Window There you can either set a program such as "Microsoft Scanners and Camera Wizard" or put a check in "Prompt for which program to run". Which will open that options menu you speak of. There are two other choices there that are pretty well self explanatory. Make sure you click on "Apply" and "OK" If you Use Kodak Easy Share programs below is some other information about seeing your camera in My Computer. For a Windows XP operating system, it is not possible to see the camera as a drive letter when EasyShare software is installed. You can mount the camera as a drive using the Windows imaging acquisition (WIA) driver. To change from the Kodak driver to the WIA driver, do the following: Connect and turn on the camera. In the Transfer window, click Cancel. On the desktop, right-click the My Computer icon, and then select Properties. Select the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager. Click the + sign in front of Universal Serial Bus controllers, and then select the Kodak camera. Select the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver. Select Install from a list or specific location, and then click Next. Select Don't search. I will choose the driver to install, and then click Next. Select Digital Still Camera, and then click Next. "F2 for setup and F12 for boot options." Are you saying you get this far and the computer REBOOTS by itself, if that is the case you start to consider a power issue here. How many files did the user want to save? Where are the 2 recovery disks that should have came with the pc, or does it have a recovery partition that you would have an option for after hitting F12 if you get that far. If you slave the drive run your options scan disk, check disk ect, the go to the manfactures site of the hard drive an run there tests on the drive. I wonder if you can get recovery disks from Dell for the 2400 series?

First let me thank you all for replying to my post.Also I am very dumb in computer world.I can answer some of the questions but the others I will have to ask someone else that know my computer.I have DSL.My antivirse is exspired.I guess I need to take my computer in and let the man that worked on it before put me a virse protection on my computer.Because I notice too after I posted my question that the calendar does not work or the clock.After I set the day and time it want keep time.I am not sure what that means.,I will need to take my computer for a dr visit.Thanks alot for your time.Judy

just go up there to my post and run that online scanner on your pc right now that will help clean out some of the stuff.
You really do not want to keep you pc with out a good virus scanner program there are many really good easy to use free ones you can put on your pc.
If you go get that superantispyware I gave you the link to it will clean a lot of stuff off for you and it is free, it is super easy to use, you just download it, double click to install, hit the button that says update, then go to the button that says full scan and hit scan, it will scan it, takes a while, then will tell you what it found you just follow the instructions to let it clean what it found.

see easy and the online scanner you just go to that webpage and hit the scan now button it will lead you through it.

There are lots of things that can slow your computer down. If I'm not mistaken, the "hourglass looking thing" is the icon your computer displays when it is loading a page. The hourglass represents the idea that the process you are initiating will take some time on the computer. The hourglass is an automatic icon that shows up on everyone's computer when it is taking time to "think" so to speak.

Now, the real question is why is it taking so much time. There are lots of things that can "gunk" up your computer memory so that it takes a lot of time to execute functions. Pop up ads and spyware are some of the things. Running a lot of programs at the same time is another. An anti-virus program can also slow you down (aske me how I know, lol!). Defragging and eliminating programs you don't use are good ways to free up memory so that it can be devoted to loading and displaying Web pages. Also, if your computer has a small memory, you might want to consider a memory upgrade. Also, some Web pages have a lot of features on them that use up memory--like videos, photos, and other animated features.

The problems that you are having with your clock and calendar might indicate a problem with the battery. The battery went completely out on a laptop I had once. This should not affect page loading speed when the computer is plugged in, at least I don't think so. It is possible to have more than one thing wrong with your computer at once though!!
