I have had 3 wireless, mice/mouse. The first wasn't very reliable but they were a bit new then. The last two I have had work fine, no problem. I wouldn't be without one. I never have to install, so nothing to uninstall now. I put the original corded mouse back on when I reformat then put the cordless back on without doing anything except plugging and unplugging. Also I always buy a large mouse because I rest my hand on it. I have a MS mouse.

Wouldn't be without my cordless mice. I use one for my laptop because I hate the touchpad and another one for my desktop along with a companion cordless keyboard. One is a MS and the other Logitech. Both work just fine.

you can just plug the new one into your usb port and it should work fine, usually no new software needed they are plug and play. No need to uninstall anything.
Back in the older versions of windows you had to do that but not in xp and above generally.

I have both wired and wireless both are fine, do have to replace the batteries every few months on the wireless.
I use an ergonomic mouse since I developed carpal tunnel and now I would not use anything else I love it so much.

I have a wireless laser mouse and keyboard, Microsoft. As I recall, it was easy to install, and I love it. Large mouse, like you, I rest my hand on it. I kept my old one, and had a cleaning kit for it. Small pad with two different size balls and cleaning solution to use to clean the track ball. My friend had some problems with her mouse, I showed her how to take out track ball, we cleaned it, and it's like new. I gave her my kit. You may consider that option. Good luck.

Carolssis, LOL I tried cleaning my old/current one. Didnt get the "lid" on good, and the first thing I knew, it dropped off, the ball took off across the floor and disappeared. Took a flashlight peering under furniture to find it again. It must have liked that taste of freedom because it's as sluggish as ever now that it's back in its cage.

Raven, thank you. I couldn't figure out why all the packaging kept saying "USB" when it was cordless (which is what I meant to say, rather than wireless). Does it matter which USB port? My PC has several, added on when we bought it.

I bought a M205 wireless Logitech mouse. It is actually targeted for a laptop, but I use it on my desktop. I liked it as it was a little smaller, and just $20.00 at Walmart.

It is real good on the battery life too. It will be two years old next month, and I am only on my second battery.

Consider one with more than 2 buttons. It is amazing how quickly you can become lazy -ooh, sorry more productive ;)

Short of high-end gaming mice, there really isn't much off a difference in terms of performance for the average user. I'd stick with Logitech or Microsoft and, as with most things, avoid buying the cheapest model(s). Beyond that, pick the one that feels most comfortable in your hand.

You'll likely need a free USB port, although some mice do come with a USB to PS/2 adaptor (PS/2 is the little round plug). Read the package for details.

Frankly, I'd skip installing whatever software the manufacturer supplies, usually it adds a bunch of "features" few use and Windows usually can recognize a mouse without any additional software. Turn off your computer, unplug the old mouse, then plug in the new mouse. If you go with a cordless model, don't forget install the batteries. :-) You may need to "sync" the mouse with the base, usually by pressing a small button on the bottom of the mouse.

I just bought a Logitech wireless M 185 for $16.00 at WM
and it started right up - after I realized I had to pull the little arrow thing out of it. The battery was already installed. No, I am not a technie!

I am new to laptops so I find I am using a combination of the up and down keys and the mouse.

I use a Logitech USB Mouse with my wireless Keyboard. I have the wireless mouse that goes with it but it goes through batteries like a race horse at the Kentucky Derby.I also have a USB mouse for my laptop since I too dislike the touch pad. In fact My hubby is using my other USB mouse on the laptop that daughter bought him for Father's Day.

Now I get to crawl back behind the cabinet the PC is in to disconnect the old cord. Fun. Never put a desktop PC in something that has a back on it!
