Well, one of the big problems will be that European ovens only cook in Celcius. I am not sure North American baked goods are compatible with the Celcius scale.

In the USA typical voltage required to control a gas oven is 120 volts at 60hz. So you could run into problems with the electrical components. Italian mains run 220 at 50hz.

The only way to be sure is to get the electrical specifications for the ovens and then consult with the manufacturer to see if they will run on USA mains power. Getting 240V to the wall should not be considered difficult as all electric wall ovens require it, but I am not sure how to contend with the frequency difference.

But you may get lucky and the ovens work fine on US current right out of the box. I would certainly look into it if you are that much in love with them. BTW, I do not blame you. They are just gorgeous. There is a model in their catalog called the "Casablanca" that is S-o-o-o-o-o Gucci.

I know, isn't the Casablanca cool?? I'm looking at the Royal Chiantishire, though, because that's the model of range we got, so I figure they would look good in the same kitchen.

As far as celsius, it shouldn't be hard to deal with--if you take the celsius temperature, double it and add 32 (since celsius 0 equals fahrenheit 32), you're very very in the ballpark. So if I want 400F, I guess that would be... uh... like 185C? (400-32, then divide the result by 2).

What I'm hoping is that this oven (which is a gas oven) has NO electrical components, so the difference in systems wouldn't matter. I didn't know there was the additional complication of 60hz versus 50hz, that's good to know. Well, I guess the clock must be electric. But... who needs a working clock! That's what watches are for! Haha.

*Sigh*. I'm picturing myself on the phone with some salesman in Italy, struggling with an English-Italian dictionary: "Are there... uh... sono... parti eletrici? Si? No?" There has to be a better way...! :-)

Ignitor, oven light, timer-clock, control circuits, all will have to operate on a different spec. Good thing is F-O exports ranges to the US. You might be able to get US standard components from the spares channel to use in it. Anyway, it sounds like a blast to me and worth it, too. The ovens are stunning.

The ovens will need electricity like moja says. The different cycle used here will most notable cause the clock to not keep accurate time, and the fan motors will operate at a little different speed.

Before you leap into the deep end you should read the older threads about importing appliances, the induction ones are full of useful info. It is not as simple as calling up TRONY and ordering the oven and having FedEx deliver it.

You are going to have to arrange container shipping, find a customs broker, pay duties, taxes ect...That oven will EASILY cost $2000 by the time you get it to your doorstep.

If you are still serious , you'd do well to try and find that model from on of the UK channels which will make life a bit easier , but not much.

Thanks much. I wasn't even thinking about the complexity of bringing it here, since there's some sort of expedited importation for things worth less than $2000, so I was envisioning it just basically being fedexed to me. But yeah, I guess it probably is more complicated. Thanks for the reminder.

I had an induction cooktop FedEx'd to me. It was pretty simple. FedEx does handle some heavy freight--you can look into the specifics. The great thing about it is that FedEx takes care of all the customs and duty and just sends you a bill plus a few bucks for their trouble. It turns out my cooktop was rated for 50 or 60 Hz. I surmise that it uses similar parts to the one they export here and they just make those compatible with either. I don't know if you'd have the same luck with your oven. If you can get it here, making a nice conversion chart for the temperatures, and for the timer if you need it, should be pretty easy.

Oh, yeah. I was cautioned here to get a letter from the insurance company that says that they're fine with your imported appliance. Just in case.

Fratelli Onofri gas wall ovens are a very scarce item at Euro internet retailers. There is also the fact that imported gas appliances are treated much more strictly by customs regs and building codes and you could also find it very difficult to obtain service for it because it would be a gray market item. Fratelli USA probably isn't going to have it certified anytime soon by UL or CSA because of the expense for such a low volume niche of a niche item.

Best advice is to look elsewhere.

The home insurance issue will be that the oven will not be UL certified. A installer might be hesitant to do it if they pay attention to such things.

As implied, you would want to see if they make a model designed for 60Hz operation. If they sell to other EU nations, this should not be a problem. When it comes to voltage, you should not have a problem. The plugs won't be compatable, but that can be worked around (cut off the plug, put on a US-plug).

Getting it shipped will depend on size and weight.

It's not a EU country but the UAE is 120v 60h. Might want to see if they see the models there and see if you can get one of those units
